It saddens me that Romney’s son wants to punch out the president. In the first debate the president was a gentleman, although some said he was passive, Romney was the one who was rude. He interrupted the moderator and the president on several occasions yet he was considered the winner of the debate. In the second debate the president was quite assertive and he’s been called negative along with some other choice descriptions. Flash back 50 years to a time in United States history when a black man would be lynched for standing up to a white man. Is racism still alive and well in this country?
The comment Romney’s son made reeks of racism. Had his father’s opponent been a white man would his reaction have been so violent? This has been the problem from the time President Barak Obama took over the presidency; so much so that he has been thwarted from all sides including some of his own party members. He’s an affront to the white racist mentality of many of the people in this country. They could not accept the fact that a black man was now president of the United States. They accuse him of not being bipartisan yet he attempted from the beginning to work with both parties… but apparently there was a great big tea party in congress to which he was not invited, and at that tea party it was decided that they, the powers that be, would make a concerted effort to stop this president in his tracks whether it harmed the American people or not.
Looking back through the tunnel of time to the inception of this country there were a small number of genuinely good people that were part of the settling of this country but I think I can honestly say that there was a large number of people with reprobate minds. Slavery of black people was instituted importing them from Africa, tearing apart families, killing many, and enslaving the rest. Then the land was plundered and slowly stolen from the Native Americans with many of them being slaughtered as well. This is the foundation upon which this country was built…slavery and stolen land. Land of the free meant for white males only. Black people are still waiting for restitution…we were promised forty acres and a mule which we never got.
Fast forward to today. Racism has taken on a new millennium aura. The prisons are now the new plantation system…the criminal justice system reeks of Jim Crow, and the school to prison pipeline delivers many minorities straight into the hands of the justice department. For those who want to say well if you don’t like it why don’t you leave? My answer to them would be that my ancestors shed blood on this soil to build this great country and if my role is to be that voice from the past hoping to keep the fire alive of the collective American conscious that has always insisted on justice, then so be it. I accept that role.
