"Bad teachers must go," said The President.

Thats right, these teachers who are trying to hold on to their job security, regardless of their progress with the students...we must say bye-bye.

Bad anything must go, but in the war against our children via "education", I don't believe the teachers should be the focus. At least not the only focus, the problem needs a much more comprehensive approach.

In a capitalist society, the easiest way to improve something is to pay more for it. If we wish for our education system to improve, we must be willing to fund it. We cannot continue to pay $35,000/year to our teachers and expect the quality of work of a $125,000 salary. We ask teachers to wear several hats; teacher, supervisor, counselor, disciplinarian, etc. Teachers are real people trying to make a living.

I think I would be a pretty solid teacher, but with my earning potential, the only way I would end up a teacher is if the salaries were competitive. I'd rather make the six figures and volunteer on the weekend to make a difference.

I Teach, adults. Social Promotion makes a teachers job impossible to do. Now YOU try teaching the graduates of that program...

Had to look up social promotion... That pretty much speaks to the core of the problem. What we allow to pass for education. Schools are becoming institutionalized daycares where the primary concern is completion rather than education.
