Greetings Ms. Felton,
As an educator I have enjoyed reading your posts. I just wanted to share "THREE LETTERS FROM TEDDY" on the December 6 Speak Out forum with you. It was passed on to me some years ago and perhaps you can pass it along to others. Peace

Hello Ms. Felton,

I appreciate the reflection upon the interview on Democracy Now concerning the interview with Harry Belafonte. I too had watched that particular interview and had such a deep appreciation for Amy Goodman first, opening the dialogue for such a topic to be addressed. Then the appreciation for Mr. Belafonte's disposition on the matter of Obama's use of power. I share the same sentiments as Mr. Belafonte regarding the need for people to hold Obama accountable in using his position to do something about the social imbalance for African Americans. I feel that "we" as a people are fragmented by personal and social indifference's that render us unmindful of the urgency that is need to come together to make such a dramatic change. I often refer to a quote, which is one of my favorites by the German philosopher, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, "that none are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free." How can we as an ethnic group become so complacent with the status quo, as though we have reached some plateau of equality? The audacity by Obama to feel that he has to be pushed by the people in order to acknowledge or act is highly offensive. As though 400 years of social deprivation hasn't proved long enough. African American women has the highest premature birth rate among any ethnicity, do to racial prejudice. Our whole lack of social denial and displacement in our society is atrocious. I would appreciate your perspective, and I welcome your comments on how you viewed Mr. Belafonte's interview. Thank you.
