I am dismayed at your attempt to discredit the president. This is the second time that Mr. Smiley has openly attacked the president. The first time on a matter of the president not accepting an invitation while he was campaigning for the presidency, which in my opinion was just ridiculous and showed Mr. Smiley's lack of reasoning. This time, Mr. Smiley once again, along with the assistance of Mr. West has shown his inability to recognize that he, Mr. Smiley, is no politician and has no idea of the obstacles facing the president each and every day. The last thing the president needs is for two African-American men, who call themselves intellectuals, to attack him on an issue that the president is well aware of and who is working to change the unemployment situation while tackling a multitude of other issues and combating the Republican party, the majority of whom are doing everything they can to keep him from serving a second term. Tell me, would you rather have Rick Perry? Do you think that he will create jobs for minorities? Do you believe that there will remain a Travis Smiley show?
Let me also say, that when George Bush was in office neither one of you went on any bus tour speaking out against him. We know this because what little you had to say about the condition of black folks was done in a forum of respect. Had you done it any other way, you would have had serious consequences to face. Well, you will have severe consequences to face for this little outburst. Believe me, this will not enhance your careers. It also will not create any jobs! All it does, in my opinion, is make you look ridiculous.
You may disagree with the president, but do not disrespect all of us by attacking him! I am ashamed of your actions and urge you to take your bus tour on a positive note.

When will it soak through you idiots heads that Black people don't owe Obama a thing. You don't see Whites telling their people that since he is also half White,so what makes you thinks Blacks MUST be burdened with supporting Obama? Wait, isn't Obama already doing that, so what difference does it make? If Repub were doing all of the above, there would be an outcry by Democrats, instead you have Obamabots keeping a boot on the neck of those who want government to be accountable to its citizens. Don't question the officials you elect, take it like they do in non-representative countries. Because of his blind supporters, Obama is becoming more damaging to democracy than a Republican.

Perot Kindles Surge in Chicano Political Activism on Southside
By TONY CASTRO
Staff Writer for Wave Newspaper
Wednesday, August 26, 1992
LOS ANGELES – An unprecedented Latino Power political movement has surfaced in the ashes of riot-scarred South Los Angeles with behind- the- scenes financial backing from billionaire political maverick H. Ross Perot. A former California coordinator of Perot’s now- defunct presidential campaign is spearheading the movement that seeks to capitalize on the dramatically skyrocketing Latino population in South Los Angeles. “We are the wave of the future in South Los Angeles,” says political activist Armando Sotomayor, who served as the Perot campaign’s Latino coordinator in Los Angeles County.
Power base
“This is a new frontier – a new world order in South Los Angeles. It’s the new power base, and within the next five years South Los Angeles is going to be run by Latinos.” Using a $20,000 grant from Perot and much of the old Perot campaign structure, Sotomayor has been organizing Southside Latinos in a double-barrel method: registering eligible Latinos as voters and assisting immigrants in taking steps towards becoming U.S. citizens. “I support Latino empowerment across the country.” Perot himself told leaders of the new Latino organizing movement at a private meeting in South Los Angeles last June. “Latinos are the swing vote of the future. You have the future in your hands.
Take back land
“You should take back your streets. You should take back your schools. You should take back your land.” In South Los Angeles, said Sotomayer, Perot set off a bipartisan Latino effort that hopes to also recruit and unite small Latino groups from local churches and immigrant organizations. Since late April, Sotomayor’s group, which works under the United We Stand, America banner coined by Perot himself, has registered almost 5,000 new Latino voters on the city’s Southside.
Legal negotiator
“Our’s is the first serious attempt at organizing Latinos in South Los Angeles,” boast Sotomayor, 34, a legal negotiator and a lifelong resident of the area. “Our goal is to finally enfranchise the Latinos who for so long have been disenfranchised and ignored by both the elected leadership in South Los Angeles as well as by the established Chicano leadership in the city. “It is our intention of doing for local politics what Ross Perot did in national politics – and that’s to make change and shake up the powers that be.”
New voters
They estimate 25,000 new voters just from Latino youths who will be turning voter age between now and then. For example, at Jefferson High School, whose enrollment is 92% Latino, Principal Phil Saldovar reports the two-thirds of last spring’s 470-member graduating class were U.S. citizens eligible to soon vote in their first presidential election.
Movement leaders say there is also the potential of another 25,000 new South Los Angeles voters among Latinos from that area who will become naturalized citizens by the 1996 presidential election. A Compton Community College study found 19,000 Latino legal residents from that area alone who will be eligible for U.S. citizenship in the next few years. “A lot of folks who have lived in South Los Angeles for years have no idea they qualify for becoming citizens,” says Jose Govea, a former Perot volunteer who in addition to working with Sotomayor is an organizer for the Mexican American Political Association.
Becoming citizens
“Its amazing, but many of the Latinos that live here could have been voting for years, but no one took the time to bother helping them become citizens.” The demographic make over of the South LOS ANGELES landscape, where low-income LATINO immigrants have been attracted to cheap housing close to service-related jobs, is indeed mind boggling. An area whose population as recently as 1980 was almost 90% African-American is now heavily Latino, according to the latest U.S. Census figures:62.7 percent in the city’s 9th Council District represented by Rita Walters: 41.8 percent in the 10th Council District of Nate Holden: 31.9 percent in the 8th Council District of Mark Ridley-Thomas.
Southside activist
As Southside political activist Jerry Mozqueda, another former Perot campaign volunteer, put in: “It’s just a mater of time before blacks in South L.A. are overrun and disappear. There’s a culture in South L.A. that’s going to hold power the next hundred years. “South Los Angeles is the new haven for Latinos. There will soon be so many Latinos living here that the years to come it’ll make East Los Angeles look like a trading post.” Most significantly, says Southside Latino activist, is that the Chicano movement in their area is not bound to old Latino political leaders or their agendas.
“We are not controlled by [farm labor leaders] Cesar Chavez, [county Supervisor] Gloria Molina or [City Councilman] Richard Alatorre,” says Sotomayor. Adds Mozqueda; “Politically speaking, we’re talking about a political Lotto game in which the Latino in South Los Angeles, especially the immigrants who’ll someday become citizens, are the big prize. “Latino immigrants can no longer be taken for granted,” admits Ernie Delgado, Councilwoman Water’s legislative deputy. “They are beginning to understand that there is power in numbers.” Those numbers, say new movement leaders, were long ignored by even establishment Latino political leaders who failed to recognize the long-range potential of Latin immigrants. “They couldn’t vote so they were written off.” Said Sotomayor. Unfortunately, in the process, so were a lot of us who could vote but who didn’t live in the barrios usually associated with Latinos. “Its sad to say it took someone, an outsider like Ross Perot, to give us a chance to feel like we belong in the political system.”

SO CALLED BLACK LEADERSHIP SOLD US OUT WITH,”MULTICULTURALISM”, “WE SHALL OVERCOME” & “KUMBAYA” RHETORIC, WHILE GETTING PAID BY HISPANIC GROUPS TO HELP THEM KIDNAP OUR CIVIL RIGHTS LEGACY!!!
ILLUSION OF INCLUSION!!! NOW IT BIT THEM IN THE A$$
California's African American leaders will nervously be watching Friday when a citizens commission releases its final redrawing of California's political map for the next decade.
They're not as concerned about losing political power in Northern California, where only two African Americans hold political office above the county level - Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, and Assemblyman Sandré Swanson, D-Alameda. That number is unlikely to shrink because of how the California Citizens Redistricting Commission draws its final map.
But in Los Angeles, a more ominous story is unfolding about the future of African American political power because of shifting demographic trends in Southern California. Ten years ago, Los Angeles County was 9.8 percent African American and 44.6 percent Latino. In 2010, it was 8.7 percent black and 47.7 percent Latino.
In addition, the state's black population is dispersing from the largest cities to the suburbs, diluting its strength.
"Because (blacks) are less segregated now, it makes it harder to draw districts around them to preserve their voting power," said Douglas Johnson, a redistricting expert and fellow at the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont (Los Angeles County).
Leaders in that region's black communities fear they could lose at least one congressional district. Three of the four African Americans in Congress from California represent Los Angeles-area districts, with the fourth being Oakland's Lee.
Which Southern California districts change depends on the commission's final map. After hearing community feedback on that final draft, the commission is scheduled to approve the state's map Aug. 15.
Some believe black communities in Los Angeles also could lose an Assembly seat and one state Senate seat.
"I have some concerns that the black representation in southwest Los Angeles, the Inland Empire and even the East San Francisco Bay could be threatened," said state Sen. Curren Price, D-Los Angeles, chair of the Legislative Black Caucus. "We could have diminished numbers."
Others worry that the commission has paid too much attention to keeping upscale, coastal districts around Los Angeles intact, said Jackie Dupont-Walker of the African American Redistricting Collaborative.
For months, redistricting commissioners have traveled the state, asking thousands of Californians at community meetings to define their "community of interest" - everything from where they shop to a local park or school, their socioeconomic status, or the race and ethnicity of the people around them.
In the Los Angeles area, the commission has a more pointed challenge: It has to balance the tremendous growth of the Latino population - 3 million more Latinos live in California than did a decade ago - with preserving districts where African Americans would have a reasonable chance to elect what community activists and analysts call a "candidate of choice."
But Swanson, the lone African American from Northern California in the Legislature, said the future of black political power depends on how well African Americans can form coalitions with other groups.
If they can do so successfully, he foresees a future where black people could be elected in an additional East Bay state Senate or Assembly district.
"I am a coalitionist," Swanson said, recalling that he helped former Rep. Ron Dellums win a congressional seat in an East Bay district that was predominantly white in the 1970s. "That's where the future of African American power lies - not in race-based districts, but ones where you win on issues."

Grandma is old and wise. Bush was - well I'll keep it to myself instead of disrespecting a President of the United States, but let's just say - even though he shouldn't have ever been a president and did so many things wrong the republicans stood by him and where was all of this outcry we have today?
Grandma understands black folks need to stick together. United we stand, divided we fall. Many blacks today have been trained by the system - that is why we have Black on Black crimes and even disrespect for the first Black President of the United States of America. White folks expect that of us and we comply.

Barack Obama IS a disappointment to many, including African-Americans, who are now worse off than before he became president. Obama came into our lives like a "breath of fresh air" and the FDR philosophy to change Wasington and the way things were done during the Bush admin. He promised to improve education and make higher education more affordable. He promised to close Guantanamo Prison, He promised to have health care for all. He promised to improve our infrastructure and create shovel-ready jobs, and Obama promised to get us out of all the wars.
The Black community is looking at Obama as not only their president, but someone who will help their communities, create jobs and stop the influx of folks (mostly young Black men) into the prison system. Granted, Obama inherited a mess under the previous administration, but our economy has gotten worse, not better under Obama. He is beholding to Wall Street, who is sitting on a pile of money, and getting richer by the day, with banks making millions, speculating is running rampant, and no one is being held accountable-no one.
Between the "let's make a deal" with the health care issue, and the "let's make a deal" with the debt ceiling issue, I believe Obama is an utter failure, weak, but smart, unable to stop what is happening, because he came into office with the mentality to reach across the isles, be freinds with everyone-including the party of NO. That didn't work, so while the Democrats had both the House, Senate and the Whitehouse, we should have slammed our agenda through, jsut like the Republicans would do.
Our family will now vote Green Party or hopefully there will be a Democratic Primary and someone to challenge Obama for the 2012 Presidential election. We are not the only Progressives and Liberals who feel this way. Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, Michael Moore to name a few, but there are many more. We need someone who will stand up to wall street & rein in the financial hoodlems, and do what is best for main street. That is what Obama campaigned on. Remember?
