I want to know when will America rise up against the injustices of Black men being placed in the prison system. Why is Wesley Snipes going to prison? Insane!

Engage your Congress, ask for changes in law that can effectively help the people you are seeking to help. Stop pointing fingers saying, oh the white judge doesn't understand anything. Why is this? Because he is white?
Permalink Reply by Ikalean Wilkerson on December 10, 2010 at 1:02pm It is my understanding that he has been fighting this situation for years because of the injustice from the very beginning. It all started with his people NOT filing when he did NOT know this. Wesley accused this man and that man was charged for his crimes and Mr. Snipes then found out some of his problems. He then hired another firm to take care of whatever the problem and once again Mr. Snipes was sabotaged for money. You might want to look up the ENTIRE case. Then the final injustice was this judge who was short sighted and wanted a trophy in his cap for this sentencing. I have an uncle who is a judge and two friends who are judges and they have explained to me the injustice of this entire situation. So Cynthia, I hope you never neglect to file your taxes; but, don't worry you won't be going to prison like Mr. Snipes. But my entire concern is about other innocent men who are being, beaten, shot and imprisoned unfairly. Men who do not get good representation in courts, Black men who are so harsly sentenced to years of prison when white men get probation. Listen Cynthia, if you don't see the injustices of Black men, then it is because you do not want to see them. God help this country because we as a country still have to pay the piper for racism. Just take a look at what is happening to President Barack Obama. God bless America...because we need it NOW!

I don't know when we will rise up again the injustices, but Wesley Snipes is going to prison for willfully resisting the IRS & not filing and paying his taxes. He's been fighting it a number of years, and you know they say, you might get away with some things, but don't mess with the IRS. I don't think his case is an injustice. (unless you know something I don't.
Permalink Reply by Ikalean Wilkerson on December 10, 2010 at 1:14pm I agree that we need to vote more wisely and consistently engage our state's representatives. I am constantly emailing mine. I have called many and emailed some representatives who are not from my state. There are so many reasons for Black people NOT voting or participating in the system. That is why I am a member of the NAACP and other organizations to get them to take up the quest of teaching Black people of the importance of voting. NOT just when an election is coming up, but all year long every year and every day. I will also call State Police offices when my son has been stopped because he has to travel the highway once a month to check on me and his father. I am an intelligent person and always seeking knowledge and worked in the community with politicians to educate people, both Black and White on racism and how covertly it is still practiced.

Permalink Reply by Rodney Prince on December 10, 2010 at 1:22pm Leadership has to become vocal. Leadership must be informed by the social scientists that have proven, through research, that particular socio-economic circumstances influence crime. They must reveal to the American people how the criminal justice system targets black men and women for arrest, prosecution and imprisonment. The American people need to be shown the uneven playing field. Instead of a 'war on drugs', we need a war against the conditions that influence crime.
Permalink Reply by Ikalean Wilkerson on December 10, 2010 at 6:08pm You are right to some extent John, but the injustices against "Minorities" many of whom are Black are in the lack of representation by the judicial system. Next the Judges dismissing much evidence that should be heard. Then there is the disparity in the sentencing of minorities. Of course there is the DWB issue and the violence put upon those who have done NO WRONG. Do you really know of the inadequacies of the imprisoning of inadequaticies of those prisoners while IN prison. I don't care who you know or what your background, if you have no first hand knowledge of what is truly happening before, during and after minorities are placed in jail, then your knowledge is LIMITED TO A GREAT EXTENT!

There will be justice for all and not justice against the black. Congress recently reduced criminal penalties for crack cocaine. It is time we all cared for each other. I have been trained to be able to even understand how the judicial system works, I studied a course at Embry-Riddle University at McGuire AFB NJ extended campus where we learned exactly how the federal courts work. I can tell you the federal judges and the apellate courts and the Supreme Court are keenly aware of this disparity in justice. Everyone needs to work to make equality start for the children at the younger ages, provide for safe learning environments in our public schools, a well educated person of any race will not become a criminal most likely. When education fails due to societal failures to provide that safe learning environment too many young black children get off the rails and fall behind. Now is the time to present legislation crafted at reforming education and law in America. Jury selection procedures should also be reviewed. No longer should people be denied the ability to have due process and fair hearings because they cannot afford the good lawyers.
