Dr. West, thank you for having a birthday, and such resonantly great musical tastes.  Tavis, thank you for obliging them.  Ms. Wilson, thank you for a fantastic segment.  (...Has somebody awarded you an honorary doctorate yet?  Why Not?)  Travelling Miles has been a favorite cd for years; your expansion on the underlying cosmology was especially engaging.  Maybe I'm more inclined to emphasize the affinities between both West African Muslim and Yoruban cosmology and Christianity.  But they are different things.  I usually have to say a quick prayer before listening 'Resurrection Blues.'  ...Anyway, nobody here is arguing about the sophistication of Yoruban cosmology.

...Right, me again.  I'm polyracial --as is everyone, if you go back far enough-- and was just listening to some old-timey Ali Farka Toure (Radio Mali) , when it dawned on me (again) that for African Americans, this should be as easy as European Americans listening to (hmm, vis. the recent festivities on the Thames) Handel's Water Music.

You could make a case for the natural unit of human history being the generation, rather than the decade or century.  Less precise, but more accurate.  Done now.+
