The problem is that most of us are under-employed. Why cant there be 2 wage scales: minumun wage with a high school diploma, minimum wage for a college degree. So many people are graduating with degrees and they have no job. Or, they have to take a job at the mall or fast food or grocery store. Don't get me wrong...on this day a job is a job...we have to eat and pay bills. But, there is discouragement. minimun wage.
It is possible that unemployment will be the spark that ignites a citizens rebellion.
As joblessness becomes a phenomena that spreads from cities to suburbs and affects more and more people.
Mitch Daniels has our state of Indiana in turmoil...always announcing jobs that don't exist...cut education by $300 million and hundreds of teacher loose jobs. He vowed not to accept the President's stimulus...but have recently re-considered and took the money.

I believe unemployment will continue to drop to unbelieveable levels because we are not addressing the real issue at hand which is...in this age of technology we do not educate the average "Joe the plumber" to specialize.A lot of people are employed in service positions these usually do not require college with some exceptions. The college student of today has a greater chance for employment if whatever field of study the choose, they find a speciality so specific that only a few are qualified to perform the job. Today's world as we know it required a certain set of skills ...that the workforce of the past generations did not possess or need.... such as being computer literate, advances in science and mathematical extremes. Our changing world is spining so fast with revolutionary technological advances almost on a daily basis. "Joe the plumber" along with millions of other Americans can not keep or provide bread for their tables. We are in the mist of diaspora both economic ,social and generational...the displaced worker of the past is becoming the norm in society today. No ,we can not slow down the world to play catch up but, we must train, educated, mentor, apprenticize,on the job train our citizens with a rentless vengence so that we as people in this new age of technology close the gap of unemployment for today and future generations that follow. ROBOTS VS.MAN=UNEMPLOYMENT...who will prevail?
I believe Affirmative Action is needed once again when massive hiring returns from this downturn in the economy to increase the representation of black women and men in employment.
My thought on this issue is very understandable if Americans don’t start investing in the American economy we will keep losing jobs.
Is it that anyone that owns an American made company, feel like they have to do business in other countries to avoid taxes and labor cost?
I am really not sure.
However I feel as an American I have to invest in making this county workable for my children. That includes getting them an education keeping them aware of what is happening in society and teaching them to be self sufficient.
This issue is really sad; I have work for a couple of fortune 500 companies and also a nonprofit. Without a degree I thought I could work my way up so I worked hard for one company for 18 years off and on. It was just draining not feeling like I could move so I knew I needed a degree.

What will get our economy moving again? (To the point where people are working)
Right now in the two inner cities I lived in Boston and New Orleans I have seen so much ignorance within African Americans young adults (ages 16-23) these young children feel as if someone owes them something, and some are not taking life serious. They work for a week , don’t show up after getting paid, go to work in p.j’s, or haven’t even considered going to college.
These children are our future, people are not talking to them because they are afraid, however I am not every chance I get I tell them they can do it, I tell them you don’t want to try and get a degree like I am at the age of 38.
It is important that we start building confidence in our youth if not, they are going to keep thinking someone owes them something and our country will continue to lose jobs. American companies also have to make employees feel good coming to work.
How many people want to show up at work, knowing that they are not going any further?
Our country is changing people are developing more morals and have very high ethical standings.
Who’s going to measure up for the change?
Right now where in the grey area, where were going in the job economy. I just hope American companies are investing in their own back yard before taking business abroad.
I will not give up.
Somebody has the responsibility to tell them they can make it, someone can tell them they have options, they don’t have to limit themselves there is so many positive things that we can instill, I try every time I talk to my children. I have four sons, I told them they have x amount of negative statistic against them already. They have to be leaders not followers, this day in age I told my sons they have to rise above what society expects from the negative statistic that predicted for them.

We have as I stated before lived in to major cities Boston and New Orleans I had to take control, I think people got mad at me because I did not let too many get close. When one portrayed negativity I did not want my children to adopt I took my children and self out of the equation.

I am not going to say, life is easy because it is not I need a job right now; however I am trying to obtain my bachelors degree. I have to be able to practice what I preach and right now I feel so sad, because I don’t have a job.

I do feel great that I am going to college to get my bachelors so I am still leading by example, the job economy for me, I think has to be reinvented or I would have to reinvent myself to adjust to the need of society but first and for most my family.

So I suggest to my son's to do thier very best. I know no one is perfect but, if you dont try you fail.
Sherry, hang in there. I went back to college in my 30's when my son was a teenager and although it was hard I stuck with it until the end. Now with my bachelors I have more options and my son saw that by my example.

I agree brother, especially when some of our so-called political law changers don't even know what the minimum wage is and continue to suggest and succeed in cutting jobs and giving themselves a substantial raise.
I finally found a job after 10 months of unemployment only after depleting the little savings my family had but we survived. I have always had faith that although I may not have achieved a particular goal. I always was provided for be that by fate or a higher power. As the line goes, "You can't always get what you want but sometimes though you get what you need.." It is in times like these that some only have their own internal strength and faith to nurture them through these times but if thoughts help mine are with all of you and I know that in the end we will be the true "winners" in life. Keep the faith and peace!
America's economic condition started when we got into the Iraq War, its been all down hill ever since!, America stop spending money on wars!, unless you want war in America-"Civil War"
