Dr. Cornel West in calling the President a disaster is no surprise. Afterall, when one considers that he was the preeminent intellectual who everyone admired and talked about, next to his sidekick Tavis Smiley. Now here comes that darn Senator from Illinois who had the audacity to become the President! Now they are not getting as much attention as they used to receive. So what do you do to counter that reality? You attack the perceived opponent with old issues that should have been addressed years ago but were never discussed. Issues like poverty-been around for over 50 years but under the Obama presidency, you have a poverty tour! Interestingly enough, there was the State of Black America where the issues that plagued black america was discussed, a book was published by Tavis smiley but no solutions have been proposed to the Obama administration, only complaints from jealous schoolboys who cannot handle their emotions. Where were this dynamic tag team during the Bush administration? Where were they during the torture of prisoners of america? where were they when Troy Davis was murdered? Where were they when the hate language and subtle calls for the assassination of our President over the past 3.5 years took place? Where were they when Newt called the President a food stamp president? Maybe they can weigh in on these questions or admit that they are jealous of the success of another intellectually astute black man who transcends race and is trying to help others and is not sitting in his ivory tower and condescending to the less fortunate. Jealousy is an ugly thing and America will always remember their labor of hate.

That's good stuff.

I am glad you are doing this, and I think on this point you are right: People don't take black folks seriously because we won't do the things we need to do. I think it goes beyond merely not supporting each other. Because, in reality, Whites don't really support one another either. The difference is, as you know, they don't need to.

That said, I think our failure is in how many people are willing to let Obama (or Smiley and West) to do the talking and thinking for them. I appreciate all three of these figures, despite the criticisms that many level against them. One of the reasons that I support them is because they dare to do things. I may not always agree, but they are playing in the game NOW and something that frustrates me more than anything is people sitting on the sidelines and taking pot-shots at the people actually in the game.

When you're out there, you make mistakes, and those mistakes are visible and can even be damning; however, I refuse to buy thee notion that Obama is a straight up disaster (especially when he has had ridiculous opposition that NO ONE EVER GETS AROUND TO TALKING ABOUT).

As far as sister Christine's thoughts, I find value in what she says. I do not, however, think that even deep arguments are bad for the black community. I don't think we have the right kinds of arguments enough. Also, I'd like to say, this is not related to you Professor, but I resent the notion of the existence of "black on black" crime. It's just crime. It's a category that our society has created to further box us into an unfair category. It's all JUST CRIME. I do not like that we, on the one hand, want to be free from the titles and categories that are laid upon us; but then we use those categories to define and construct our reality. It's ludicrous.

Professor C. L. Sanders said:

Actually i am doing quite a bit. I have written a book predicting how everyone would behave to date after Mr. Obama was elected. I was right. I have never witnessed such vitriole in my life. I teach and mold minds to do their own research instead of listening to rhetoric such as this. I work as a grassroots organizer with the Obama admin. I work as a volunteer with the national action network as a civil rights worker. So yes i am working and talking. One thing that i find interesting is that the cbc has been around for decades but i never heard this issue come up. That is why the Negro will always be ignored and disrespected because they don't respect their own. Advice to many of you look past the words for their deeper meaning.
Mr. Brown thank you for your enlightened comments. They are refreshing and on point.

Professor,

I'll put my community service record up against yours any day and win hands down. (The same goes for others who blab blindly about "sidelines" without knowing what they are talking about). The primary reason my victory is assured is because every thing you purport to be doing is against the interest of African Americans: (1) You zealously support a Right-Wing administration that has caused historic suffering of Blacks and cold-heartedly insulted them when they cried out for help: "Shut up and stop complaining. Take off your [welfare queen] bed room slippers." (2) You "volunteer" with an organization led by a con artists (evidence provided above).

And the sad part of all is you think you are doing "civil rights" work.

I assume your self proclaimed "work with the Obama administration" is a paid position. If that is true, then you are not only a zealot, but a paid perpretrator of crimes agaisnt Black America in particular, and the Black world in general. How do you sleep at night?

While I have restricted my observations regarding your behavior to zealotry delirium, if your postion is a paid one, despite your ineffective attempts at propaganda, it is time to look at other diagnoses. One that comes immediately to mind is psychopath. I am very, very, serious about this. This personality disorder is characterized by a lack of empathy, caring, guilt, love, morals, or compunction, etc., of any kind.

There was always differential evidence of this disorder in your behavior. Whenever the suffering of Blacks was discussed in relation to your personality-cult idol (and we now know -- meal ticket),  you showed an extreme disinterest, in fact, outright dismissal, of the suffering of others. In fact, you attack those who raise such concerns with ad hominem character slander. Indeed, there was always evidence of a psychopathic style.

But the zealot can also be a psychopath. While the psychopathic style is evident in your unthoughtfulness regarding the suffering of others in the interest of your personal material gain, the zealotry is evident in your inability to apply critical thinking regarding the administration's policies and how they negatively impact your own people. And your zealous worship of someone who has achieved what you have always wanted to do--live in "massah's house." Therefore, I think it is safe to venture that you are dually diagnosed--psychopathic zealotry, is how I would coin it.

While the zealot is a fool, and the psychopath usually has higher than normal intelligence, in the end they both lose. The zealot loses because he avoids critical thinking and fixates on symbols of vicarious validation. By the time he realizes that what he believes in is false, it is often too late. And that is for those who eventually wake up. Some never wake up. The psychopath loses because he focuses on short term gain while ignoring long term consequences. Moreover, the psychopath never accepts responsibility for his actions. While he specializes in victimizing others (often using his expertise in guile and cunning), when he loses he blames his victims.

Evidence of these characteristics in your behavior is your obsession with blaming victims, or those who speak out on behalf of victims, of current economic policies "of causing people not to come out and vote."

You see, in such a mind state, it's not the policies that are the problem, not the insults that are evidentiary of cold-hearted uncaring, but the victims' response to their suffering that is the problem. Never mind that Blacks have lost millions of jobs over the past four years, and never mind that poverty among Blacks are at or greater than the Great Depression era (while the rich have grown richer than ever), they are expected to come out and vote. Not because they will benefit one way or the other, but because you and your idol-meal-ticket will benefit. Never mind that $8 billion of TARP money, allocated by congress to prevent home foreclosures in the hardest hit communities (meaning Blacks), still has not been spent to save the homes of women, children, and the elderly. Someone blocked it, your ilk argue fatuously? But how could anyone except the chief executive (president) block funds already allocated by congress and given to the Department of Treasury to spend? The blocked claim is an example of the short term con jobs being fed to a politically unsophisticated community

But that is a short term hustle that will not bear long term fruit. By now, most in your camp know it. That's why you are so worried about turn-out. You should have been thinking about it all along; when you were insulting people and mocking their pleas for help.

One last thing. Psychopaths know what to say. They are great charmers and gamers. I have noted how you have used vain terms in trying to gain relevance with an African American audience: "Uncle Tom," "kneegrow," "Massah's house," "scared of the white man" and other such nonsense (when you are supporting policies that are the white man's greatest instrument in the destruction of Blacks, at home and abroad), etc. That's when I first became suspicious that a psychopathic personality might very well be operating in comorbidity with zealotry, not to mention your blatant uncaring. You come across too phony. How can he speak of dedication to the Black cause without showing any true concern for massive Black suffering? I pondered. Despite my knowing that as a result of the 2008 presidential election, the "Black cause," has been stimulus-paired (classically conditioned) into Black demise. And because of this association, millions of Blacks are now clamoring for their own abuse and destruction, while thinking they are supporting "civil rights."  Nevertheless, your behavior was still too great a discrepancy. But I knew that if you kept talking (writing) you would provide the needed information required by me to complete the assessment.

While you are probably unaware of it. I am convinced that my last post touched you. This is evident to me by your filing several posts yesterday. This you normally don't do. Of course, you wrote of nothing worthwhile, you twittered and tweeted, it appears, all day long. Two possibilities for that behavior come to mind, and both are consistent with my observations as stated in this post. (1) Given the penetrating nature of my feedback to you regarding your false claim of research, your posting, tweets and twittering manifest an attempt to avoid cognitive dissonance (the zealot's unconscious maniacal flight from facing a painful truth by increasing self engulfment into zealotry-- a sort of psychologically running amok). (2) The psychopath's cunning rush to change the subject and avoid being found out).

If you'd like, you may tell me more.

Sorry Wilson but everything i do is from my heart and done for what i believe in. What do you believe in? Its does not look like its equal justice for all people. What i do is free. Mr. Brown so eloquently summed up this discourse. While you represent the mindset of some by being inflicted with the paralysis of analysis. I have moved on to another issue that highlights the last 3.5 yrs of my president's struggle of governing while black. I noticed that you are stuck in the past. We are weighing in on the record gop obstruction against the president that you, smiley, west, or noone wants to talk about. But i understand that these are white men and you are probably bowing to them and doing your Benny Goodman dance instead of talking about their filibusters that are starving families bc the president is a black man that they hate. I guess its just the slave in you. Good day!
Oh about psychiatry, it is a diagnosed mental illness! Look it up in the dsm-iv manual. If you know what that is. Smh

Professor,

I hope you had a wonderful "Father's Day" as was my experience. I took the weekend off from everything and didn't look at a computer.

First, let me thank you for telling me more. I think that was brave of you. I understand that there will be times when you will want to escape into regressive behavior at this stage of the process. That's fine.

Although you did tell me more (again, thank you), examples of your escapism and avoidance is manifested in the content of your comment.

Second, I am somewhat perplexed about your reference to "psychiatry" and what I should "look up" and whether I know what "DSM IV" is (actually DSM-IV-TR) and that I am frightened of the "white man" and other regressive ideations more benefiting of school yard adolescence.

"Oh about psychiatry, it is a diagnosed mental illness," you wrote. Well professor, your condition appears more dire than earlier assessed. Psychiatry (the medical component of mental health services) is not a diagnosed mental illness in and of itself. Rather, It is the branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats mental illness within the medical model (although some are multi-modal). In the interest of your further edification, psychiatrists are not the only professionals who diagnose and treat mental illnesses. There is a wide range of licensed/certified professionals from psychologists , counselors /therapists, and social workers, etc., performing these vital tasks. They also vary in specialty; some provide direct care, some strictly conduct research, some teach, still others do all the afore.

Regardless of specialty, no one knows of any diagnosis labeled "scared of the white man" in the Diagnostic And Statistical Manual OF Mental Illnesses (DSM) or the International Classification Of Diseases (ICD- 10).Your condition might be more serious than previously assessed.

Additionally, I am concerned about your statement that "you mold minds to do research and not believe rhetoric." In short, you teach them to relentlessly seek facts. Of course, that is a good thing.

What bothers me, however, is how impartial can you be in that process--given your own inclination to loathe facts. How fair will you be in grading students who actually discover facts, if the facts are in-congruent with your own zealotry delirium?

For example, you did not practice what you teach when you went to the re-election website and posted still another listing of trivia as proof of accomplishments of this administration. You obviously researched nothing. This, you do, despite having been thoroughly discredited for a May 2011 piece of delirious dribble about accomplishments. You come back with more.

What should cause those who care about you to be alarmed, is your salient disconnection from the real world issues of most people; jobs, wages, home foreclosures, etc. For African Americans (at least those who are politically lucid), in addition to the afore, there are other vital issues of privitizating of public education (poor children won't be able to attend school at all due to cost factors just as many can't attend college now due to cost factors), increasing prison budgets and an overall uncertain future, etc.

For the past four years, nothing has been done for the American public (Black or white) specific to these vital issues. Only Wall Street has benefited. In fact, as I've pointed out before, Wall Street had profits between January 2009 and July 2011 of $85 + billion, more than in all the previous eight years = $77 + billion (HAVE YOUR STUDENTS RESEARCH THAT). This, while millions of Americans (mostly Blacks) were losing their jobs, homes, and sliding farther into poverty.

Since you want to ride the old worn out MSNBC loon train nonsense about "blocked," this and that. Here are some things you should have your students research:

(1) The TARP bill contained $8 billion dollars for "hardest hit' mortgage relief, the banks got their bailout portion of  $700 billion, why did the distressed mortgage holders not get theirs? It wasn't a "block" because the funds were at the discretion of the executive branch to spend. Why was the money not spent?

(2) $75 billion were allocated in the HAMP program and given to banks to prevent foreclosures, yet millions were (and still are being)  foreclosed. No one blocked it, because oversight of the program was strictly within the purview of the executive branch. Why was there no guidelines for the banks to follow from the Dept. of Treasury, as a nonpartisan CBO report cited as the reason for the program's failure and the suffering of millions? Have your students research that.

(3) There are between 30 and 40 million people people in this country who are either unemployed, or underemployed, yet there have been no serious efforts by this administration to implement a massive jobs program. Instead, the focus has been on austerity (a right-wing Republican narrative). Even the $870 Billion "stimulus"  was not a serious jobs creation effort, because over 40 % of it went to Tea Party tax cuts. The rest squandered on projects like spending $12 billion to create 20 jobs in Utah, etc. While Blacks got only about 1.3%, virtually nothing. Have your students research that.

There were numerous jobs bills passed by the House when the Democrats were in control between 2009 and December 2010. They languished in the Senate because they couldn't get presidential support. This caused both the House Speaker and The Senate Majority leader to complain about a lack of such support. Have your students research that.

We can go on and on, and for each issue you raise of significance, I could -- with relative ease-- prove that ain't nobody "blocked" nothing.

There is one exception. The "progressive" Democrats did block the president' rigorous efforts to cut Social Security as well as other social safety nets with the Simpson-Bowles Deficit Commission. Thank God for that. And they blocked his efforts to cut these same programs by $4 trillion doing the so called debt ceiling debate during the summer of 2011. The Republicans, as pro Wall Street, anti poor, as they are; they only wanted $2 trillion in cuts. The President insisted on $ 4 trillion. He had to settle for $1.5 trillion. Chagrin that he couldn't cut more last summer, he said in the 2012 State-Of-The- Union address that he would not stop until he cuts $3.5 trillion more from domestic spending. Have your students research that.

Moreover, the health care reform that you tout as an accomplishment is nothing of the sort. It is a right-wing Wall Street bailout. It is Republican, not Democratic. It is a product of the right-wing Heritage Foundation. The Democratic version of health care reform is single-payer / public option. Not mandated purchase of shoddy insurance products, with no price controls. In fact, the health insurance debate presents the perfect example of game playing. While it is a Republican plan, they oppose it publicly. By doing so, that insures that those like you will support it. That way, Republicans, working in cahoots with their undercover Democratic poseur, are getting all their legislation passed with the full support of people like you. Amazingly skilled? No. It's simply taking advantage of zealotry delirium. While people like you are running around bragging about some one playing "chest." Yes, chest is being played --against you. Have your students research that.

But remember, you are training them to become scholars, not zealots. So, please don't go to them with anti-intellectual fallacies like "paralysis of analysis." That is pathetic. And don't fail them for analyzing the world in which they live.

In closing, one thing you and those you complain about (the "racists") have in common, is you both misapply race in trying to stir up your base. The fact is, almost everyone in the administration is white. What does that fact do for your "racial" analysis? Every political interest group  in this country has gotten a positive response from this administration, except Blacks. When Blacks speak-out, they are told to "shut up! Stop complaining! Take off your [welfare queen] bedroom slippers"..."stop feeding your children cold Popeye's [fried chicken] for breakfast! What does that do for your race pride analysis?

This is a political matter! In politics the game is power and the distribution of resources. Pride has nothing to do with it. Why should anyone be proud of being insulted and abused before the whole world anyway.

You are in an acute confusional state. You stated above that you are serious and committed about what you do. I never doubted that fact for a moment. I believe you are a zealot, and had already assessed you as one, even before you confessed above. The problem is not your lack of commitment, but your lack of critical thinking and your aversion to research.

On the other hand, as I pointed out in my last post (or so). The antisocial (psychopathic) personality is incapable of caring for others except in cases of zealotry (that's why you ignore the suffering of the masses).  But the psychopath is generally smarter than the typical zealot. In fact, he knows what to say in specific situations. I see this style evident in your constant talk about other Blacks (who do speak out against the suffering) being "scared of white folks,".. "Benny Goodman, dance"..."Uncle Toms" ... "Massah's House," etc. It is simply psychopathic con talk. It is hollow. You don't even sound like a brother. As the the youngsters say, "I ain't feeling you, man." As if you are supporting a "BLACK" cause by supporting "servants of the rich."

You have lost your way. You have forgotten the the goal of our people has always been to uplift the many, not the individual. In this regard,  your behavior fits perfectly with the zealotry delirium that the early 20th Century philosopher, George Santayana, described as "redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim."

Thank you for telling me more. If you'd like, you may tell me even more. I'm listening.

Meanwhile, please read: "Still waiting for our first black president," by Fredrick Harris, Washington Post, June 1, 2012.

First lets start with who is the President? Where did he come from? What did he do besides being of color to cause US to support him? How did he become a senator? Was he a member of the Daly crew? Did he fight and/or stop corruption in Chicago or was he part of corruption in chicago? Who and what was his father's and mother's history? What did Obama stand up for during his Ivy leage years at Harvard and Columbia where there were very few Black students? What litigation's and/or laws did he enact and/or sponsor during his term as a senator and/or attorney? The President knew the economic situation of this country and racial problems before he applied for the JOB. Name calling and threats goes with the JOB. We as Black people are like children when dealing with the President. If we support the President's reelection we're voting for JIM-CROW III and the Oreo will give us just that.

I instruct in a criminology and criminal justice curriculum. I have worked and have managed programs in the criminal justice, human services, probation, drug court, intensive probation, juvenile justice systems in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, and Georgia systems. I have been in the classroom for Over 16 years, am a published author, and was just flown to Denver, Colorado to receive the "faculty of the year" award. Thanks.

Professor,

What subject (s) do you teach?

Please, tell me more.

Really Ricardo? Jim Crow III? So where does Jim Crow fit in with the GOP KKK in the house of representatives when they filed a contempt charge against the attorney general? Tell us we would love to know. Tell us why you are not speaking about the blatant disregard for the respect of the atty general and the fact that he and the President are preserving your right to vote by filing lawsuits against these miscreants who are passing voter suppression laws nationwide. Tell us about that Ricardo. Also tell us why this Jim Crow III house have voted or filibustered ALL LEGISLATION by the President to help americans get back to work? (see the american jobs act) Tell us why as a Senator, Mr. Obama passed legislation to curb police brutality by making it a law to install dashboard cameras and microphones in all police cars? Tell us why Mr. Obama's healthcare that Jim Crow III is trying to get the Supreme Court to dismantle will give refunds to 12.8 million american families. Tell us Ricardo. You sound just like a lying Republican who comes with no facts but just opinions. If you happen to be a black republican, then maybe you can visit your leader's homes by entering through the backdoor and serve drinks in your tuxedo. Because you WILL NEVER be considered as one of their colleagues. Keep voting against your interests but don't expect all of us to do the same. We can all have different opinions, but we will never have different facts. IN ADDITION, GIVE US YOUR OPINION OF MITT ROMNEY WHO HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT FOR OVER 3 YEARS BUT HAS NEVER GIVEN US A PLAN FOR AMERICA.  Good day sir.

Professor Sanders I have some experience with so called Black professors who sellout like you .I also have the honor to know and call friend Great Professors who don't sellout their people. The president and his step and fetch-it attorney general have not earned the respect of Field Black People. You choose to answer only the questions I raised that fit your needs. You and the others who sellout Black people for crumbs from the masters table. The question is was the president a member of the Daly crew??? Yes or No. You, the attorney general and the president are UNCLE TOMS. You have choose to defend the corruptions of this adminstration. Real Black Men understand name calling. Obama is running on american Idol. If we Field Black People not you House Black people support Romney and use Race discrimiantion as the issue Romney will stand by US Field Black People who will put him in the white house.

What is your definition of sell out? You see you are what many civil rights organizations call a neo-colonial puppet. These are the persons who in slavery days, were able to seek refuge in the massahs home on the plantation, while exempting massah from any responsibility for the demise of the black race as he spoke and apologized and denied any existence of oppression while blaming another black male. Inasmuch as you have had experience with some black professors, you have never had any experience with me. I notice that you never answered any of my questions and that does not come as a shock to me because that is not your purpose on this site. Your purpose on this site is to make your dismal attempt to divide the black race during this election year and to promote ignorance as you never present any factual evidence to uplift our thoughts and discussions, but simply attack and seek to denegrade me and others who provide dissent like the simpleton that you are. When are ready to have an intellectual discourse, go and get permission from massah, and come back and answer my questions. Finally, we see through the reverse context that you speak in. It is like Mitt Romney. In the midst of job growth, he says that the President has made the economy worse but offer no empirical data to support his claim. Good luck with that. Oh the scars of slavery!

We have always been divided as a people. Light and Dark. House Negro and Field Negro. I'm proud of being a Field Black Man. Are you proud of being a House Negro? One more time: Was the president a member of the Daly crew??? Yes or No???
