As a young African American man that is constantly seeking and obtaining knowledge of self and trying my best to pass on any that I obtain and ingest to others, I feel that the STATE OF THE BLACK UNION IS NECESSARY TODAY! Brother Tavis, this information was so powerful and I feel that more young African Americans need to disconnect from popular american culture and learn about our community nationwide. We grow up in a system that is not for us and our parents try their best to give us the best shot at some prosperity and growth, but I see the same cyclical issues within the nation and within our community. The state of the black union brought awareness and though awareness is beautiful in itself along with the information, what can be done to put more things in motion within the community, because there are a couple lost generations that have lost the desire to fight and are under the illusion that we have finally "made it". I started this post off just to bring attention to a great tool that had been going for quite a long time and I feel that if at all possible this could be reintroduced, I know that myself along with many other young African Americans would love something like this that really gives us the real on what is happening in our communities, this country, and the world. I understand that figureheads and those that are among the so called Black elite have obligations and interests that affect what they can say where they can say, and how they may say it, but I see that we are about to lose more than we ever have because of the illusion of inclusion (ala Dr.West).
thank you all for your time and this is by no means a formal letter. This is just what is on my mind after re visiting footage of previous State of the Black Union conferences.
