Mr. Smiley and Mr West its okay to cater to black folks.

I can't sleep and this is bothering me so much because for some reason it seems hard for you all to accept the fact that its alright to cater to black people. Why the announcement all the time "for all races," or "We talking to all races of people," as if you are apoligizing for catering to your own race of people they don't apoligize to us or announce that they are catering to us. Only black people do this

When I moved to Chula Vista, California and got on the bus do you know that if it was crowded the Hispanics would motion for another Hispanic to get the seat before I did.

I tryed to get a job down there picking strawberrys do you know I went into that temp serves for a year just to see would they send me out I was a homemaker and the temp serves was right down the street on Palamar st from my kids school and the Hispanics would never send me out they would make sure that all of the Hispanics got out first just like they are doing now at all of the temp services.

Why do black men keep trying to invite others like they got it all together in their own back yard. "Yeah come on in we got room," No we don't.

When I worked for the Jewish Federation as a switchboard operator the machine would come on automatically and it would say "Shalom" the only thing I had to say was how could I direct your call. Do you know my boss came in who was a Hispanic and hollowed at me saying Shelia I've come to far for you to mess this up I need you to talk a little more proper see because sometimes I would have to say more than how may I direct your call. I was so puzzled so I asked what do you mean am I speaking ebonics? She said no you sound black and if the Jewish people hear you they are going to think we are using their money to support black people. There is a way to do everything and on the phone your part is to sound white. I truly love you both please believe me and I just wanted to let you all know that it is okay to US black folks for y'all to cater to us and you don't have to apoligize or recognize not a nam nuther. Wake up we need all of you cause they don't need us.

Sheila, I'm really sorry to hear you had to go through all that.  Your experiences reflect a growing wave of change in America where African Americans are being relegated pushed to the outskirts of town and business not only by whites but hispanics. Will we go down kicking and screaming? God is on our side. Faith is ever so important to reach the other side. Say hello to racism again.  It appears to me that the President has a racist agenda to keep black folks down too.  All in all, to end on a good note, keep your head up while seeking your dream job: what someone thinks of you in negative terms to slight you do not make you that person unless you believe.

New International Version (©1984)
no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.

Wow, what a story. Thanks for sharing it and making a very valid point.
@AvidFollower, to amplify on a point u made about how important faith is now I would like to add "faith without works is dead" and to quote a sermon I heard many years ago "God Is a Revolutionary". This is not to diminish or take away from anything you have said, I just want to make the point that we must answer these slights and oversights directly, and head on. The time for passivity is long past. To quote Frederick Douglass, Power concedes nothing without a demand, it never has and it never will. Peace

@ Rudolph

Precisely the point, Rudolph! Thanks.

@Terri, we don't require people of other cultures to respect us. We teach others how to treat us by what we allow them to say or do to us. We unfortunately have a history of not holding people accountable for what they say or do to us. We always turn the other cheek or find some reason to forgive if not forget. When was the last time you can recall us requiring anyone to acknowledge much less atone for maltreating us? Its just that basic. I'm out.
I agree with Sheila.  It's okay for African-Americans to look out for their own interests.
@libyaWest,Right you are. Others do it without remorse. Its called survival.
Right on Mr. Hickman.  To me...faith without works is just hope.

You are very generous; the Bible is more candid. It says "faith without works is dead." Yep; as dead as an automobile, designed to run on gas, sitting there without gas.  Good luck with that.

Oh, a post-script, I just noticed Rudolph already said that much...great!

we can also teach others how to treat us by how we treat each other. i can't teach others to treat me like a queen if i allow my brothers to treat me like a "b****" or a "ho". the civil rights movement opened my eyes to the ability blacks have to demand more. the issue of self-respect supercedes all.

if we focused on a black agenda than we could only rely on black support. i don't think it's prudent to turn down support from other races at this time to help disadvantaged people.

In the zone, Chinwe; in the zone
