The success of the revolution in the Middle East and Africa is making me think we can do the same here.
The mark of police brutality on our country has never been erased. In fact, it has increased with no end in sight.
I have never seen a case where the police cheif admits the beating took place...and fires the officer. Even when the parties go to court...the officer goes free.
Police in every state know they can get away with beating a Black man!
Police brutality should be eradicated...but how.

Permalink Reply by Bri'on on March 4, 2011 at 3:04pm Q:Is a revolution in America possible?
A:Absolutely! Now, who is going to do the revolutionizing...I don't know!?!
There are many concerns in this country by many different groups of people. Will we work together and solve each other's problem or will we step on each other?
For instance, in AZ, they practically made it legal to profile Mexicans, claiming to find illegal immigrants. "PROFILING" sounds like a familiar term (DWB:driving while Black), Black people in the United States of America are VERY familiar with the term, yet as a collective, I have yet to see any progress in terms of reaching out to each other and solving the "PROFILING" issue together. I do recall Rev. Al Sharpton shouting about discrimination and marching with folks in AZ (Arizona Immigration Bill Angers Al Sharpton, Mayor Bloomberg;Arizona Immigration Law: Al Sharpton Vows Protests If Law Isn't Rep...), but what radical change has happened to make sure that "PROFILE DISCRIMINATION" is wiped out?
POLICE BRUTALITY:
Q:How do we eradicate police brutality
A:
1.By creating expert legal teams (NAACP expansion or spin-off) to tackle every case. After criminal action is rewarded, continue with civil action.
2.By putting more "beat" cops in the community, I'm not talking about the pleasant downtown or the picturesque beach, I'm talking WALKING from 5th & Broadway to 10th & Broadway (Any city, USA) and back. IF YOU KNOW THE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY, THERE USUALLY IS LESS CHANCE OF UN-WANTED CONDUCT (e.g. police brutality, crime).
3.By continuing to build bridges between law enforcement and communities, especially under-privileged communities.
Statistics on police brutality are not favorable (Police Brutality in America) in America. We need to continue our efforts to strengthen the community with the citizens that live in it and the law enforcement that protects it.

In my estimation, marching with seven good men instead of 40 bad ones sounds Christ-like to me. You are not Christ. No one is, or can be, Christ but Christ himself. It is good enough to be Christ-like. To remain Christ-like, however, we have to "be vigilant" (1 Peter 5: 5-14). Keeping watch implies staying alert or staying on one's guard to remain secure in the Mighty Hands of God and overcome the wiles of the enemy. So, may it be with us. Amen.

If we look at history, the civil war was a revolution to end slavery and when you think about it it took that kind of a revolution to get the country on the same page. It is probably time for another revolution of that sort, but here is a question I feel is just as important as the one you asked, Are black folks ready for another revolution of that kind? I ask because white folks have been thinking like this for years, increasingly more since Barack Obama was elected. You heard all the talk about 2nd amendment rights and the like and secretly whites have been arming themselves to the teeth. Buying guns and ammunition in record amounts, clearing the shelves in some cases. In a revolution people will die and blood will be shed, maybe a more important question is are we ready for the kind of revolution that should take place? Are we armed and ready? We can't be half cocked about it.

I want a political revolution, not an armed one. I think we on the left can win a political revolution, but will all wind up dead in an armed revolution. Face it...no matter how many black folks and left folks take up arms, we are immeasurably outnumbered by the right wing (who aren't all white, either, and who use guns regularly).
We won't win quickly, and we need to begin at the local levels, working up through the power structures of our neighborhoods, towns, counties, states. The long revolution is possible, the short one means death.

Mr. Pidgeon,
I appreciate your response, let me start by saying I am mad as hell about the way Republicans are hamstringing my president's administration. Because I feel like this, after enduring 8 years of Bush and waiting and holding my breath for him to do something for the U.S. economy it never happened. Then we get President Obama and I think finally, we have a president that gets it, we're going to have a domestic agenda. Then comes the Republicans with all of the filibusters (a record number) seeking to obstruct, then I watch as issue after issue they seek to stand in the way of what President Obama has tried to do for this country. So, I ask myself for what? Why are they doing this? the answer is clear they are carrying water for their backers. It has been becoming more and more apparent our political system is for sale. The Supreme court ruling Citizens United allowing corporations to donate unlimited funds to campaigns and political entities made it official. So what you're hearing is my frustration with a system that seems to have gone rogue. My frustration because I feel powerless to do anything about what I am witnessing, so coming into these forums and expressing my anger here is therapy for me. Truth is I am mad as hell.
