I am applaud at the President's actions because I had so much faith and respect for him.I thought finally we have a leader that will turn somethings around, even though I am aware that his control is limited to whims of the elite powers to be. However, to promote the Bush family totalitarianism, so that they can secretly rule for another 4-8 years under the disguise of a black man breaks my heart. This is the ultimate sell out that any black can do to a minority. It's like working with the KKK to commit Black/Arab genocide.   What the hell is going on? I would like to hear an explanation from President Obama about this list, I hope it is a lie.

Culture and politics in Hawaii are extremely hierarchical. Extremely. President Obama is more "local" (politically Hawaiian) in his thinking (he went to an elite local school, Punahou), which is why mainland people can't figure him out, especially black Americans since he is phenotypically (physically-looking) black American. He is not culturally black American, he thinks "local." This is why he makes deals with political enemies of high rank rather than fight them, even if they treat him poorly. On the other hand, anyone he thinks of as "his underlings" (his staff or liberals or Democrats or black folks) who criticize or don't fall into line, he will deal harshly with. And woe to whistleblowers or "leakers" or people he thinks are disloyal. Those he will treat more harshly than his political opponents. That is why if there was a leak from the White House, it is extremely doubtful Mr. Obama sanctioned it, and why he is so angry.

That is why he is so angry at Dr. West and Mr. Smiley. They are "his" he thought, and they turned on him by criticizing him.

As a skilled multiculturalist who resided in different countries and locations, Mr. Obama might have learned to orate and intone like MLK and Rev. Jesse Jackson, learn black American culture through his wife and church (which is also how I learned to behave in Hawaiian culture), etc., but his inner thinking and emotions are totally hierarchical tdue to the elite Punahou School and "local" Hawaii. "Local culture" in Hawaii isn't the same as Native Hawaiian, it is a multicultural mix of the Euroamerican missionaries, Native Hawaiian (chiefs) etc. (these two being the elites), and the peoples who came in due to plantation labor needs like the Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Portuguese, etc. It is a mixture that mainlanders would have no clue about and which "local" people born and raised in Hawaii would be a part of and would not question.

And to clarify, this is not a continuation of Bush's tortures...Obama has FAR surpassed Bush's Militant record hence NDAA, Patriot Act, Cointelpro, Warrantless Wire Tapping, Drones, Wars, Kill Lists, etc.  Yet Black folks STILL tryin to overlook all these Stalin/Hitler/Hoover Totalitarian policies & laws. BLACK PEOPLE please wake up and start paying attention!

In addition to your and Bennetta's sharp observations, this is evident not only in terms of foreign policy, a tiny part of which this conversation addresses, but domestic policy as well. Consider the health care bill, a Right-Wing Wall Street bailout, concocted and pushed by the ultra Right-Wing Heritage Foundation; the funneling of $ trillions to  Wall Street while the public (especially Blacks) suffer from joblessness and home losses; the ending of Affirmative Action (Defense Department contracts); the handover of the national public school system and its $ trillion budget to Wall Street hedge funds (charter schools); the undermining of Social Security (Deficit Commission, Super Committee, payroll tax cuts); we could go on and on and on and on................

He is one of them.

To bad "The Change We Can Believe In "is nothing but another Corrupt politician who lied, and threw the average American under the bus when he got elected to Office. With his kill list he now has a God Complex.  Jim crow Jim Messina had to nerve to beg me for spare change. I told him and the rest of that Republican lite crowd Democrats that my money did come with spare change . You might say that I'm no longer bamboozle lead astray or hoodwinked. I do not feel anything for liars and truth benders but contempt. He is not just liar but a masturbator of the truth. A man  without any principles or moral compass who refuse to fight any fight he can not win. I have look at the maggots in His Administration and found it rotten to the core. We  are out here catching hell sees no different between him and The Republican( Bowlers-Simpson)  I have looked at This Administration Accomplishment and over half of them are people he killed. The Republicans would be proud except they are not going to vote for him. We on the left do have a choice . With the passage of The NDAA some  will not give money and some will just stay home. No we are not on drugs, or need to be drug tested.  We are people with principles. I know our principles will not keep us warm or fill our stomach because some of us are suffering  from Miss-A-meal Cramps, When you really think about it,neither do his policies.Some  might say that  I'm  looking at the glass half empty ,instead of half full. I summit, where I am standing I can not see any glass at all. In this campaign season of lies and counter lies  the poor and the people who live a life of quiet desperation have not been mention once by either liar. I have seen this play before with different actors. The only problem is some of the current players do not know their lines. I guess they will have lines and lying down by the time this play open for the American public. It play will probably get allot of accolades from the bought press. I wonder how will at play in Peoria?

A big thank you to Mr. Smiley and Professor West for talking about the drone use and the killing of civilians in those strikes!    If you are called an "Obama hater" for doing this,  I know this will not deter you.  It is our gut wrenching sense of blood on our very hands and of being betrayed  by President Obama that makes us speak out against our  brazen and cowardly use of drones in other countries.   (What would we say if China or Russia started using drones to kill perceived enemies in other countries and anyone who happened to be close by?)

Thank you for saying that the "just war" argument does not apply here.  Thank you for saying the "fascist" word.   Stay strong and undeterred in the face of any criticism.  Your voices are so important.  The Tavis Smiley Show is the only show worth listening to on the public radio station here in SW Florida.  (WSUF, I think.)   The rest are namby-pamby or just ignore the important facts altogether.  You two have an amazing trajectory of study, accomplishment and staying rooted in the real world;  I feel you will not abandon us.  Someone has to not betray us!   I hope it is you two.  

Thank you, Professor West, for being hard on the President, calling this part of his foreign policy "vicious, immoral, illegal and criminal".    Strong, even harsh words, but they are true and someone has to say it.  Taking out people without detention or an open evidence-based  trial is  what is harsh, way counterproductive and, damn it, unnecessary.

Indeed HE IS one of them and clearly hasn't played a true "Democrat" hand in years!  Seems his strategic focus while in WH has exclusively been on gaining himself personal POWER via Anti-Constitutional policies & laws that have done nothing but further strip Minorities of their Civil Rights & Civil Liberties - all this tragically done with two Black men historically at the helm. The fact that Obama would enable that evil Cointelpro Program to be reinstated, via His extension of Patriot Act, is truely shameful when one considers this is the exact program that tried to kill most of our early Civil Rights Pioneers whom courageously paved the way for Obama & Holder to become whom they are today.

Not sure how factual it is but sadly this week I also read an article referencing that we're now establishing Surveillance Bases throughout Africa (another Dictator maliciously tryin to control the Motherland & HER resources!). Anyhow I'll stop now given the "OBVIOUS PLANT" within this discussion thread but do keep your eyes open Bro as 2012 Election should teach us all much.

I agree. What's sad is to see some of our people supporting their own destruction.

That's why I'm  challenging the "confessed" plant, So-called, Professor Sanders.

We must confront these zealots in intellectual warfare, and the con artists with moral authority.
