West goes behind the scenes of his heated debate with Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC this week. West: Al Sharpton doesn’t have the kind of influence Tim Geithner has, who comes right out of the Wall St. oligarchic world. Brother Al & I go back 30 years so he knows it’s not a personal thing. He’s in a tough space and I’m deeply concerned about him. |

Plain and simple, the reality of the situation is:
PEOPLE AREN'T HAPPY WITH THEIR FINANCIAL CONDITION!!! I think the issue we all have is that we all know Obama knows our condition and the proper things that need to be done aren't being done. We all know we are supporting several wars and war-like campaigns presently and we know our tax dollars are going to support those efforts. The problem is we do not choose to trade food, clothing, shelter, etc. for war. The average American would rather put those efforts into running this country so that we can all finally "HAVE" and be financially stable; self-sufficient & independent. We thought we'd get that with Obama, and we realize there are underlining factors making it difficult for him to do, or at least that's what we tell ourselves. Nontheless, we still stand here in need and looking to this man, Pres. Obama, to do right by us all. I believe there's much we don't know. I believe Al-Sharpton has the best of intentions re: Obama. But Rev., it is what it is, we are in need; you know this.
I believe that Brother West as well as Tavis just don't want to put on blinders and act like everything is ok because Obama is black/African American, etc. The issues MUST be dealt with. We need to get our affairs in order, especially with the World Bank saying millions will be in poverty. What is to become of the minority?

Our problem as a people is too grand of a problem to contend with this behavior. We must over-stand that these brothers are suppose to have differences; witch shows me, at least one of them has the heart of telling his trues. I have an issue, and have had an issue with one of these brothers from way back when I first learned to trust my reading (at 30, while in prison). To learn about the 70’s doing so I had to go back to the 60’s and understanding we must pick up where our top mans (MLK “VS” Malcolm) has stopped (our leaders were dying off and this brother just sat and did nothing in helps of stopping the spread of black on black violence in the 70’s or the 80’s he could have easily got up in the 70’s and did right by us) you must pick up the ball where it lie and take off to the goal. He didn’t care then and he doesn’t care now and/ but while having this on my mind I would say it’s time for a few power heads to together and put a plan in action. I’m especially glad it happens with my brother, because he care so much that he is made to fit us right in (besides the point I bet he would love to have more of us in his classes). So let’s not fit in to the “VS.” (It’s a very small=VS. box) when it comes to your brothers, and please over-stand that we all have deferent’s.
PS: If Gods will me I will go back to school in hopes to learn better how to articulate on paper as in speech.
Permalink Reply by Matu Feliciano on April 15, 2011 at 4:48pm As if I voted for Obama only because he was black~ no, nor did I think he would get it ALL done, no~I did expect Obama to have to be made to listen to the po of America, no matter their color~Obama has not done that or stood for the blue collar worker yet, yes, I said yet~ an so we have DR. West to stand for all, as he has always done~ This is not a black and white America, it's ALL colores and working class or po working class America.
Mr. Sharpton, needs to catch up and stop thinking that MR. Obama is in his pew~ nope
Permalink Reply by KEITH (TART) BOND on April 15, 2011 at 5:16pm I am in full support of President Obama. I am not in support of you or Smiley. I am insulted that you would call President Obama a mascot. So I discount everything you say. I don't agree with you. Rev Sharpton is not weak. I have respect for Rev Sharpton. I'm part of the black working class. I am one who has educated themselves and pulled themselves up by the bootstraps. If I were you I would focus on improving black education; reducing inner city crime; improving black health care; focusing on the horrible state of the black family, lack of black father raising their childrren; reducing the black murder rate; etc.; etc. I want to reiterate that I love President Obama. He has an extremely tough job trying to pull this country out of the brink of depression. At the same time 20% of the electorate hate him because he is black. I refuse to buy into or accept your criticism of President Obama. If you don't go out and vigorously support his reelection bid, so be it. I will with every ounce of energy I have. And guess what, so will 90 -95% of blacks who are voting. You and Smiley are big disappointments as far as I am concerned!!!!

Permalink Reply by Steven Valentine on April 15, 2011 at 6:03pm I see Dr. West using "Socratic Criticism" and Rev. Sharpton using unflinching loyalty. Both seem to support the President in their own way. Well done Dr. West. I too have become very skeptical of President Obama's administration. I voted for him, but I don't know if I'll be voting for him again.
What I would say to Reverend Sharpton or any man of God. There's a reason the prophets of old were warned not to eat the King's food, and to take a different route home. Food for thought.
