You are right, Ray. That is what rational people do. They do not sit around pontificating and lamenting their fate. They simply get up and do something about it. As Walter noted somewhere else, quoting from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, "the fault is not in our stars ... but in ourselves, that we are underlings." In other words, we are what we are, not because we were destined to be so, but as a result of human condition. Most fully functioning human beings have the ability to influence their conditions and change their circumstances, if only they are willing to exercise their God-given faculties. Those who cannot change their situation have the capacity to adapt as best as they can. There is a place for the insane; it is called the sanatorium. Human society also decides criminals belong behind high walls with barbed wires and gun-wielding custodians. The system is not perfect; we can always make it better in our small ways through conscious action and informed choices.
In his "The Way of All Flesh," Samuel Butler says, "All our lives long, every day and every hour, we are engaged in the process of accommodating our changed and unchanged selves to changed and unchanged surroundings; living, in fact, is nothing else (but) this process of accommodation; when we fail in it a little we are stupid, when we fail flagrantly we are mad, when we suspend it temporarily we sleep, when we give up the attempt altogether we die."
Those who elected to vote with their feet in search of greener pastures did not love Detroit less, they simply loved themselves as much. They are validating Butler's submission. Civilization calls them rational.

I truly do not feel like it for I am sure it will be a waste of time. The Black mind has a defective trait which borders on self destruction.I see the great majority of us hell bent on committing suicide.

Can you please elaborate. I don't truly understand why you would say such a thing.

Carol,
Imagine that that was from a white man, a large army of blacks would have risen up in arms (literarily). Justifiably so? Yes, but hopefully for the right reasons. Without a name attached to it, the writing could have been mistaken as spewing out of the mouth of Eysenck. I have no issue with race. I refuse to grant anyone the joy of making me feel discriminated against on account of race, regardless of whether the attempted racism is in-house (intra-racial) or out-house (inter-racial). Where the occasion warrants it, I let it be known by anyone that I belong in a select group of folks (blacks and non-blacks alike) who can hold their own any day anywhere, regardless of who and who are playing.
I do not make a habit of trumpeting the letters after my name. I know many people without doctorates who are of sound mind and sound character, broadminded, and an epitome of intellectualism. I have also come across many others who carry tertiary titles with neither integrity nor discernible educational value. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. Thanks Carol.

You are right....We have been conditioned to fail and fail,we shall. We are as stubborn as mules and we have this unhealthy love affair with whatever is bad for us.As I said before, there is no other group of people who should be more advanced but yet are more backward.Bill Clinton ,I am sure if he were to run for president today and Obama was not in the race, would get more than 90 percent of the black vote.Yet,he did more to help his friends lock up Black people than any other president before him. What I just wrote is the truth but the majority of you will discard it as nonsense because you rather believe in a perception than in the truth.I made a statement before that the private jails in America have swallowed the people of Detroit just as they have swallowed a great many numbers of Blacks from other cities and so far,not one reply has been made on that topic. There is no hope for you people because this generation of Blacks refuse to believe that they are under attack. You are trained to believe that racism is dead and white people are your best friend;More so now that the white man has given you a Black president.Let me give you a quick example of the corruption of the Black soul.If you go on youtube, you shall find videos of white people who are exposing the bible for it's endorsement of slavery. There should be no discussion at all that the god in the bible himself gave those orders.Yet,all the people on youtube who are defending the bible by saying that the slavery it speaks of was not as harsh as the one our fathers and mothers experienced are Black folks. When the descendants of our slave masters who are still alive today hear us defend the book that their grandparents used to enslave our grandparents, they must be laughing their a**** off.Private prisons are none other than indoor plantations where prisoners are being used for slave labor and other subhuman experiments. Our minds are trained to believe that every Black person who is locked up is a criminal who deserves to be there. You hate yourself so much that you are convinced that it was Black Africans who profited from the slave trade and who sold each other to slave merchants. You people are the sorriest bunch of people on planet earth because your only source of history is what you are being fed every sunday morning by a bunch of pimps who call themselves preachers.Even when you find out that your preacher is a child molester or a homosexual, you continue to adore and worship him. Now,you are worshiping a man who supports the murder of little children and old ladies. There used to be a time when CNN would not invite a Black face on their shows to endorse the empire's wars.Ever since Obama took over the helm,I have noticed that there is no shortage of Black faces willing to speak in favor of dropping bombs on poor brown skinned peoples of the world.

We as a people have been conditioned to fail, but few get out. The few that do get out don't do enough to help their brothers and sisters. They sit back and watch their sisters and brothers self destruct and never even bother to lend a hand and then talk about how they hate their sisters and brothers. You would be surprised to know how little it takes to inspire someone to take a chance and step out on faith. So if you are not a part of the solution and you have nothing good to say about my brothers and sisters, keep your thoughts to yourself. We have our share of bad publicity.
