I live in NY and the sense of togetherness immediately following 9/11 was unbelievable but quickly subsided. Bush being the architect of the Patriot Act took the scope of state powers to a whole new level...now its almost illegal to walk here (Bloomberg only made matters worse) with quality of life issues.

Young Black men are routinely pushed against walls and frisked without cause, stopped while driving Black and the list just goes on!!! Now with the proposed building of the mosque they're actually calling public streets "hollowed ground" when there's a strip joint, OTB and several other cagey establishments closer in proximity, what's next??

It seems as though the Patriot Act heralded a new wave of democracy that was to come. Yes, it is disturbing and is no surprise. The sad thing is, what recourse does one have in securing his or her rights.

Oh yes brothas and sistas. We must be mindful that the "We shall overcome" methods have got to catch up with 2010 in order to maintain our civil liberties. We have to combat the silent unacknowledged indirect racism that is perpetuated by our vanilla brothers and sisters.

Sister Shelly one thing we can all do is support the unions. The ACLU is committed to cracking down on the bullying of LGBT youth, in wake of the incident in the news where the college student jumped off the George Washington into the Hudson River for example.

I am beginning to believe that Government " For the people by the people" has slowly turned into Government for" Some People by Some people" and now is Government by the "Corporations For the Corporations". My solution is to give government back her civil rights and take back MY God given HUMAN RIGHTS! I was born free and will die free!

I agree with Shelly AS on this one. This is the legacy of the senseless Patriotic Act and is no surprise. Not only is this story disturbing, but scary.

Don't act like the Patriot Act did it, or that there has been some real expansion of state powers. The FBI and a few other agencies in this country have been above the law and ruthless long before the Patriot Act or any written expansion of power. The paper game is about lending credibility to murder but the above the law murder has always been here.

You were born an asset and resource of the USA incorporated. Social security number tagged. You don't have any "God given rights." The rights you have are afforded to you from people that are more powerful than you. Freedom, you'll never know until the day that you pick up your gun and it will only last as long as you can hold out. Your conversation reminds me of Geronimo and the Apache.

Government is concerned with one thing, government. Let's not be foolish, the good old boy network has and always will exist. They do things to try to placate us from time to time, but realistically, if you are not on the inside, you are on the outside. Many of our people are on the inside and care about greasing their own palms and creating networks for themselves and their families. This is the difference between this generation and generations past. Power and money were not their focus, freedom was. Now, it is simply about power and money-PERIOD. Dr. King must be turning over in his grave!

Some battles are worth fighting. Some things are just instinct, like the reasons why the chameleon changes it's color. Survival of the fittest baby, and we still here.

The masses of blacks are still here on the bottom in urban reservation camps being used to feed the top.
If thats what you call "survival of the fittest baby", more power to you. It looks like hogs in a pen at the slaughter house to me. Survival seems to be staying away from the gate.

Freedom is our prize brother. Have you heard 'Keep your eyes on the prize'? The prize is freedom. Alot of us have been deceived into the idea that money is freedom and the more money you have, the more freedom you have. So the collective push for freedom has been transformed into an individual quest to spend money while sitting in an illusion(sometimes delusion) of freedom. Still in chains, with the handlers setting the pace and making the rules as things go. Even Dr. King had a bad idea of 'Freedom'. Freedom looked like equality in the American nightmare to him but look at those that are free and above the laws that bind us. Is there any equality going on in those circles? When they got tired of hearing Dr. King, he got shot in the throat. We need to take our money and start buying what we need to get free.

REALIZE that if you support Democrates or Rebublicans you are re-inforcing the unlawful form of government that is called a "Democracy" STOP VOTING" voting says that you agree with the unlawful government. This is and always supposed to be a "REPUBLIC". In a republic you cannot loose your rights!! In a Democracy 51% of the Sheeple can vote the rights away from the other 49% of the sheeple. Besides your vote does not count!!!! the president of the US CORP can only be elected by the electoral college NOT YOU!! The CEO of corporations are not voted in by employees or "Common Stock" but only through elected officials or "Preffered Stock" WAKE UP!!!!
