In light of the current wave of societal woes I wanted to pose this question to the readers of this page Smiley & West. What is important to you that you would like to promote changes to and for? There is a myriad of problems that we as a community can potentially talk about but what can we as a people do about the things that are wrong with our system if we don't first bring it to task???

My cause is the importance of education here in America, not only in the basic subjects, but also in in the arts and humanites. This does not mean to me, that children should only strive to be in show business. The real importance is in getting, and keeping good teachers.

The task/cause that I have chosen to take on is making a difference in our families. Some of children are raising themselves, lack respect for themselves and others, and are feeling like they are alone in a world that chooses to overlook them. I would like to be an advocate of getting back to the "It takes a village to raise a child" mentality.

Oh, yes. It most defenitely starts at home. Parents should have the first responsibility. What lost of people don't think of is that educators are parents also, and lots of those educators have their children in the public school system.

It is important to me to see as much TRUTH, LIBERTY & JUSTICE as is possible in the world. I could not wait to get onto the internet tonight & see if the men who have laid down their lives to get the documented proof of the lies of the leaders & the corporate media out to the public tonight were save. The WikiLeaks organization with the men who provided the information have ignored the fierce threats of danger politically and physically for revealing the truth to the world, but they decided that they had to follow what was the truth in their own hearts and what was the truth and right for the people of the world to know.

I have for years been concerned for the 22 children and 800 men who were innocent of any violent actions or charges were taken to a foreign prison where they were used like the TusKegee airmen who were purposefully infected with sifilus, they are being experimented on with secret injections. The UK gov. has begged for the last UK father, Shaker Aamer, to be returned & instead he spends endless time in solitaire. The same is true for the last Kwaity victim & everyone that has been reading or researched knows the Canadian threatened by one or more

US has been bombing Yemen with the deaths of over 20 children and Pres. Obama said that the 180 Yemeni's could not go home because of the NEW development of violence which is contributed to the al Qaeda. I have to wonder if the US IS the al Qaeda if the new recent violence has now been revealed by WikiLeaks to be the US with the Yemen gov. lying to say that is from them. Where else is the US acting as the al Qaeda? Perhaps in the US? Tues for the first time in Colorado, the public TV channel 12 will show the movie "Loose Change", which is was the first of a large number of documentaries, movies, videos and other sources that have concrete issues demonstrating the illegalities and lies committed by the Bush administration about the 9-11 event. There were 2 planes & 3 buildings that went straight down with all the evidence removed & shipped off ASAP, even though over 50,000 people in YN alone wanted an independent investigation. The overseers that made the Bush admin. publish a report said the report and the people involved had lied and were especially corrupt in who was assigned the job of the reporting. The overseers were hoping for true concern since their husbands had died in 9-11.

I have seen were the public in the US is filled with propaganda that are lies because they spend so much time watching the regular channels of TV, which is censored and financially supported by the big oil & other corporations. The media system is sailing their ideas of profit & power to be continued for the top 10% or less of the population. So many people are hoping to be part of those 10%. In the late 1800's and the early 1900's there was a master slave society and on the part of most poor whites they selfishly dreamed of being the masters, while the slaves fearfully stayed in servitude to care for their loved ones, but this way of live has been fought against by those who know it doesn't fit with a higher level society, freedom and liberty for every human being. I believe that every person who believes in the ideals of rights for each individual needs to do what they can to fight for Assange, Manning, Congressman Barbra Lee, (Should have been Cynthia McKinney for PRes.), Middle Easterners, Against propaganda & for truth & public news & information, For everyone to have the right to any place at any speed on the internet, there should be prosecution of torturers in Illinois and in Guantanamo.

Every group in the US needs to fight for individual rights together, because divided there is less strength. It is going to be a very difficult task for the US to transition to a less polluted realm of water and ground from oil, but it needs to begin rather than killing innocent people around the world to try and secure the last of the oil & transportation for oil fields. The big corporations want to own the "little people's- as BP called us)" labor.

They need to write in every newspaper across the country that no soldiers are being put in harms way by the documents, but just as documents saved the lives of millions were they were brought forth during the Vietnam war they should do the same and more now. Now we need to have a change in the fincials system so that the media and news system is a public supported by the public instead of by the private oil & other corporations. There needs to be a change in the election system so that those with good characters have a better chance of getting elected than just those who are supported by the multi-million dollar oil, GMO-Food, Weapons & other BIG corporations get into office, whether by cheating or deal making.

i can confidently say that i feel my purpose in life is to uplift my people. to boost the self-esteem of blacks worldwide. i taught in inner city public schools to show my students that entertainment doesn't have to be their only meal ticket. i taught them how to look someone in their eyes when they speak. rely on their intellectual assets instead of physical. i loved my students. hated the system. i've moved on to fashion design. i specialize in chic styles with west african textiles. my market isn't solely blacks. i envision my apparel on all nationalities. africa has the most exclusive fabric in the world :) i want to be the best mom i can be. i want my seeds to embrace their physical features and love being black royalty. my humanitarian efforts will focus primarily on progressive charter schools, cultural exchange programs, law centers for the lower class, and renewable energy solutions (i'm also very passionate about the environment).

getting good teachers is easy. KEEPING them is the challenge. i agree with u totally that for a certain demographic of our students, they strive ONLY for show business. i had to fight them tooth and nail to come up with a plan B. smh.

So true...students are so naive, connected with a dose of arrogance. Teaching is one of the mose important jobs in the world. Teaching goes back to Bible days, Many of the authours of the Bible were also teachers.
