It took a few months, but the Congressional Black Caucus finally had its jobs meeting at the White House.

Smiley: The turnout in Black America will go down because you can’t play the history card again.

West: This had everything to do with politics. He wants to consolidate the Black base.

That's good stuff man! LOL! I'm sure we believe they're not bought. Yeah, right!

Dr. King said: waiting almost always mean never.

Lincoln, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon all did things for Blacks when the fallout was imminent. They chose to do what was right and let history be the judge. When black people say “wait”, a precedent is being set that others will use.

I'll give the President the benefit of the doubt... let him get to his second term before you start vilifying for what he's not doing for the black community ...  He's done quite a bit (IMO) his first term... it's quite possible if he (The President)  "overtly" does things for "US"... it will be used against him come 2012.    So allow him to get to his second term first...

"All I'm trying to do is snap people like you out of that hypnotic spell Obama has you under"

You seem to not understand I am under no hypnotic spell, I understand that much of what I expected of Pres. Obama has not materialized.  I have spoken a few times here of the rational I use to understand why this is so. i.e. wars, economic crisis, narrow, racist Republicans unwilling or unable to compromise. You call the President a lackey, a dupe, but identify him as running "trickle down", administrations since 1980 have advocated the policies and agenda that instituted "casino" capitalism. One term, filled with strife and division, cannot eliminate the effects of 30 years of public supported "supply-side” economic policy.  It is irrational to believe that is possible.

"When he first entered office with the super majority and 12/2010! Granted, Bush caused it but Obama fail to use his opportunities to fix it! This is reality and the truth you seem to be ignoring!"

I am ignoring no truth..The "super majority" you speak of is a media creation, words strung together to advance an agenda.  The coalition responsible for the election of Pres. Obama seemed to recognize the policies of the previous administration as not in their best interest. They sought change and coupled with the youth in this country made that statement.  The reality is though many dissatisfied voters, seeking change were only interested in a change as long as things stayed the same.  This is an impossibility.

"You black people are holding us back! Scream the truth at that fool and let him hear we ain't dumb and he'd better get with it or hit it 2012!"

I would say it is you who hold Black (African-Americans) people back not me! I have read of your support for the Tea Party rather than Pres. Obama. That you are even capable of such a statement shows which of us is holding Black people back, and deserves no further mention.  I am not dumb, I am well educated, and contrary to popular belief my IQ is above average.

I agree, I'd like Pres. Obama, in his next term, to focus on building the strong middle class responsible for American economic power. I am smart and rational enough to know he can only do this if he has the support of the masses of people who elected him. They were the young, the poor, the working poor, the permanent underclass, and minorities of all ages, races, and genders.

I understand a level of frustration, if I did not acknowledge it then I would have to be "under a spell". What I will never understand is using that frustration as justification for increasing division and strife, which in turn serves to undermine the unity so needed.  I recognize what is in my best interest and I believe you do too....

         "I agree to disagree"

You're right. My tone is often off putting but only to those who don't acknowledge the truth! Those who live in a virtual Disneyland. Those that call truth narrow, misguided vision of any reality! All I'm trying to do is snap people like you out of that hypnotic spell Obama has you under. I'm not looking to do you irreversible harm or hate on you. I'm trying to awake you from Obama's hypnotic spell! He's obviously using brain control for people to miss what he's doing! The media is awake finally on the misgivings of Obama. They are still not accusing him hard enough on the Bush Tax Cuts stalling the economy! They are owned by big business! They will lose their jobs if they tell it like it is. I'm just trying to get people to open their eyes. Stop blindly making excuses for Obama on false premises!

The reality is that Obama is running trickle down economics! The coffers of the banks and big business are fat! Obama helped them get that way! Not by accident but plan! Obama's the engineer running the trickle down economics train!

Until recently, Wall Street was on the verge of breaking records while Main Street hobbled along! That's because Obama took cared of big business and the banks and assured us Main Street lags Wall Street! It never happened because big business is holding out for lower tax rates. They know they have an all day sucker like Obama and trying to get more out of him! He decided to let Wall Street be the engine to pull the train back on the tracks! He did way too little stimulus considering the damage of the Bush Administration! That would have called for higher taxes on the rich! He refused to do it twice! When he first entered office with the super majority and 12/2010! Granted, Bush caused it but Obama fail to use his opportunities to fix it! This is reality and the truth you seem to be ignoring!

A blind man can see this! You have to be under Obama's hypnotic spell to miss it! You're listening to his words and watching his lips move instead of what he's doing and not doing! His talk don't match his walk! Flim-flam man! Smoke and mirrors! Barrack Smokey Obama should be his name! He's got a real magic act going when he's damaging blacks the way he is and they are still sticking up for him and not kicking his butt on these blogs to get some traction for some action out of him! You black people are holding us back! Scream the truth at that fool and let him hear we ain't dumb and he'd better get with it or hit it 2012!

Yes, globalization promotes outsourcing which is Supply Side Economics at work causing the rampant outsourcing of jobs for bigger profits by taking advantage of cheaper labor costs in China, India, and elsewhere overseas! Stock portfolio's are loaded with investments in companies benefiting from cheap labor overseas, outsourcing our jobs! That's why we elect a President and congressmen to work the tax rates and job incentives to supply enough jobs for America! They have the tools to supply America with enough jobs but Obama fail to do it twice when he had virtually unimpeded opportunities! That's reality and the truth you seem to be avoiding! Are you asleep on it or are you just as bogus as Obama?! I hope it's a case of not being as informed as you think you are.

I'm not hating on you. I love you all. I just want you all to wake up! Snap out of it! God's love.

I would rather live in my fantasy than any creation fueled by the narrow, misguided vision of any reality you advocate.  Much of what you say has merit.  Unemployment is at outrageous numbers, globalization and outsourcing have much to do with that.  "Supply side" economic policy allows for rampant outsourcing and promotes globalization. The narrow vision of the Republican Party accounts for the specious premise of "trickle down" not Pres. Obama.  I understand a level of frustration and have posted of it; I question where it was as the political agenda of the last few administrations played out?  I make no excuses for Pres. Obama; he does not need that from anyone. The President is making me proud (sometimes) doing the best with what he has in front of him.

Your tone is often off putting and does not welcome dialogue; words are meant to invite exchange that is there purpose....If I am to understand that you are thoroughly disillusioned with the leadership of the President and will not vote for him...You should understand I am not disillusioned with him and I will be voting (again) for him.  You are passionate in what you believe and post, & so am I.

I am not mad at you either, even after you characterize my vision as fantasy. I would ask what you thought about the possibility of a Black (African-American) president 5-15 years ago.  That was fantasy too and here we are today living that fantasy....

THAT'S PURE FANTASY!

Republicans act in the interest of the rich alone! The Democrats are suppose to be acting in the interest of all. Democrats and Republicans are ruled by campaign dollars and job offers by the rich after office. Democrats are reduced to little more than lip service for the less fortunate because of the influences of the rich dollars on them! They are all a bunch of bought men and women! Some less or more than others. There is nothing else to explain this calamity!

However, they both have an electorate to please. That's why the twain shall never meet. The interest of the rich are not the interest of the poor! The rich will forever look for ways to screw the poor. Democrats are letting them do it more, and more! It's about bogus promises, intents, and bought men! Even Obama has a price and sold to the highest bidder! That's why he's giving it all away to the Republicans!

Christine... Ms. Rickett...You make a point....I hear ya!  There are individuals who personify your characterizations...There are also Black (African-American) Conservatives (2% voted for GW Bush). They are wholly different and "kinda' sad individuals.  Education in this instance is more akin to "miseducation".  Pres. Obama postponed meeting the Caucus, he has nothing good to relay to them. Wars, economic crisis, Foreign & Domestic Policy all pressing.  Universal Healthcare, closing Guantanamo, and ending "Don't  Ask Don't Tell" leave little time for the needed intervention on issues of employment and education... high priorities of Black (African) Americans.  The racist zeal with which the Republican Party has comported itself is shameful coupled with the complicity of the Democratic Party and that the Obama Adm. accomplishes anything confounds the mind.

The appeal of the President and the vision he shared encompassed all Americans.  I would wish for exclusive attention (;-0) but it will not be forthcoming. I refuse to view Pres. Obama's attempts at inclusion as deal breaking (detrimental) for I am sure inclusion is the only way forward.

An individual is entitled to exercise their vote in the way they wish. I have seen advocacy for among others Huckabee-Kucinich-& Paul.

The President needs the unified vote of the disenfranchised of all colors, ages, and genders.  There is power in that number!

Ms. Rickett...I also have that concern.... A growing number of Americans feel the hopelessness you speak of and seem to pass it along to all they meet young and old alike. Our children have grown up with cell phones, computers, and a much smaller world....Young people in this country are exposed to much more and have much more access.  That the majority of Americans have attached their worth to money, status, and the next new thing impacts the socialization of our young.  We have become little more than consumers, and we must be able to impart something more to our children if we wish better for them...Past concepts of America and Americans are changing and seem constantly in flux. Communities devastated by modernity are ill equipped and incapable of performing as previously. Many of our children have only the guidance of television at a time when civility, care, concern, and empathy are considered weaknesses not strengths.  These were core principles of American and the America I grew up in and constituted our strengths. You are correct the Constitution is a living document, written in another time for all time.  The principles and concepts underpin this "Grande Experiment" in representational governance and are worthwhile.  Although I have concerns about the America our children will inherent it is inevitable that they will.  I like to believe they are up for the challenge!

Tessa,

I understand Obama drama and and sympathized with him. There are many, and I speak in behalf of the poorer communities who are disillusion like Obama drama. I see and have heard people's frustrations for many years now.

I feel that I can speak because I too have to work 12-16 hours receiving minimum wages due to the field I CHOSE to work years ago assisting the elderly. My heart goes out to the elderly who are too frail to care for themselves.  The insurance for Healthcare is not affordable and the wages barely provides for necessities.  The avarage wages marketors put out on line is simply not true. But this too, a another issue that one day must be addressed.

What concerns me, is our youths.  Reaching the ones in (the hood). Too many of them feel it's hopeless.

Hope lead people to march during the Civil Rights Movement although many like today felt like Obama drama. Hope and love for humanity made the movement strong.  Just as you said, " 5-15 years ago, the belief or hope of ever seeing a black president many would have said it was based on "false hopes, false constitution".  But the term "live Constitution" many don't understand. "Live" becomes reality when we march, vote and fight for it's reality to become not when we sit at our tables and just complain. The Tea Party made it "Live" when they got out the votes and put in office who they wanted to vote in congress on behalf of their agenda. We must do likewise. It becomes overwhelming at times because there's so much to do and read to keep up on issues, but we must continue the struggle.

I hope one day all of our paths ( yours, mine, Obama drama) will cross so that we may embrace in love and respect for one another. Ok, I will be late for school if I don't leave now. Signing off.

That's my concern. Before the calculator - I was good in math. The calculator speeds things up and calculates for us so we don't have to. During Katrina many nurses didn't remember or know how to calculate the drug doses manually when power went out and their had to rely on their own intelligence. Technology is great, but what happens when the internet goes out, cell phones go down-the satalite?

I use to tell my children when they didn't want to eat black eye peas and lima beans "You will have a hard time surviving in this world, if you ever become unemployed when your grown and have a family of your own".  People go crazy and kill themselves because they don't know how to survive off of little to nothing.

There was always someone in every neighborhood who knew how to sew and made a living right in their own community. There was always a good cook in the neighborhoods who sold dinners out of their homes making a profit, but now it seems it's only done in the churches - to build a bigger church. There was always a good maintenance man in the neighboods who made a living fixing things for people in the community. Now people go to McDonalds, Burger King, they spend hundreds of dollars on stupid sneakers and micro-mini skirts. Stupid. They curse in public cause they feel it makes them seem superior or something when all it does is make them look stupid.

It's ok to look at TV, but all the time? Listening to music - all the time? They are making other folks rich.

The skills they need are survival skills.

Ok, I don't want to get too far behind. I have to take care of my school business.

Chow for now.

The jobs issue is a major concern of mine.  It appears, on the surface, that the Obama administration has placed jobs low on its priority list.  This may be in appearance only, or it may be that the President isn't worried about jobs for minorities.  It is obvious that there are many items on the Presidents table and that all of them are important.  He appears to be caught in a "Catch 22": he can't spend on jobs programs because of the economy, and the economy won't recover unless people start spending again (which they obviously can't do without jobs).

Personally, I see him as a supporter of the Globalists' agenda.  It is almost blatant considering the people he has as his advisors.  His cabinet has more members from the Council on Foreign Relations than any since Jimmy Carter.  These people stand for the New World Order.  They are not interested in jobs for poor people.  They want to eliminate poor people.

As it stands, present policy is widening the gap between the rich and the poor.  It is also decreasing the size of the middle class.  I say beware if this trend continues because, historically,  revolution has been sparked by a troubled middle class.

Mr. Byrd,

That is exactly what I got out of history books I read.  The gap got smaller between the rich and poor. The middle class - those who lost everything to the rich began to rebel - a revolution.  The poor is already poor. They already have to go to food pantries and Hosea feed the poor. They already don't have a decent education. So if the rich don't give up eventually on taxes and most of the middle class have to stand on lines too at food pantries, the revolution will begin. I believe people may be getting ready now - for the revolution, if it has to take place.

Where will the rich go? To what country? Countries are falling down all over. People are tired of the rich and powerful, their greed - in all of the countries.  Iran, China and North Korea, one of them wil be the next great World Power if the rich here continues in their greed and there's a revolution.

Perot Kindles Surge in Chicano Political Activism on Southside

By TONY CASTRO

Staff Writer for Wave Newspaper

Wednesday, August 26, 1992

LOS ANGELES – An unprecedented Latino Power political movement has surfaced in the ashes of riot-scarred South Los Angeles with behind- the- scenes financial backing from billionaire political maverick H. Ross Perot.  A former California coordinator of Perot’s now- defunct presidential campaign is spearheading the movement that seeks to capitalize on the dramatically skyrocketing Latino population in South Los Angeles.  “We are the wave of the future in South Los Angeles,” says political activist Armando Sotomayor, who served as the Perot campaign’s Latino coordinator in Los Angeles County.

                                 Power base

“This is a new frontier – a new world order in South Los Angeles.  It’s the new power base, and within the next five years South Los Angeles is going to be run by Latinos.”  Using a $20,000 grant from Perot and much of the old Perot campaign structure, Sotomayor has been organizing Southside Latinos in a double-barrel method:  registering eligible Latinos as voters and assisting immigrants in taking steps towards becoming U.S. citizens.  “I support Latino empowerment across the country.” Perot himself told leaders of the new Latino organizing movement at a private meeting in South Los Angeles last June.  “Latinos are the swing vote of the future. You have the future in your hands.

                                  Take back land

“You should take back your streets. You should take back your schools. You should take back your land.” In South Los Angeles, said Sotomayer, Perot set off a bipartisan Latino effort that hopes to also recruit and unite small Latino groups from local churches and immigrant organizations. Since late April, Sotomayor’s group, which works under the United We Stand, America banner coined by Perot himself, has registered almost 5,000 new Latino voters on the city’s Southside.

                                   Legal negotiator

“Our’s is the first serious attempt at organizing Latinos in South Los Angeles,” boast Sotomayor, 34, a legal negotiator and a lifelong resident of the area. “Our goal is to finally enfranchise the Latinos who for so long have been disenfranchised and ignored by both the elected leadership in South Los Angeles as well as by the established Chicano leadership in the city. “It is our intention of doing for local politics what Ross Perot did in national politics – and that’s to make change and shake up the powers that be.”

                                   New voters

They estimate 25,000 new voters just from Latino youths who will be turning voter age between now and then. For example, at Jefferson High School, whose enrollment is 92% Latino, Principal Phil Saldovar reports the two-thirds of  last spring’s 470-member graduating class were U.S. citizens eligible to soon vote in their first presidential election.

Movement leaders say there is also the potential of another 25,000 new South Los Angeles voters among Latinos from that area who will become naturalized citizens by the 1996 presidential election.  A Compton Community College study found 19,000 Latino legal residents from that area alone who will be eligible for U.S. citizenship in the next few years.  “A lot of folks who have lived in South Los Angeles for years have no idea they qualify for becoming citizens,” says Jose Govea, a former Perot volunteer who in addition to working with Sotomayor is an organizer for the Mexican American Political Association.

                                       Becoming citizens

“Its amazing, but many of the Latinos that live here could have been voting for years, but no one took the time to bother helping them become citizens.” The demographic make over of the South LOS ANGELES landscape, where low-income LATINO immigrants have been attracted to cheap housing close to service-related jobs, is indeed mind boggling.  An area whose population as recently as 1980 was almost 90% African-American is now heavily Latino, according to the latest U.S. Census figures:62.7 percent in the city’s 9th  Council District represented by Rita Walters: 41.8 percent in the 10th Council District of  Nate Holden: 31.9 percent in the 8th Council District of Mark Ridley-Thomas.

                                        Southside activist

As Southside political activist Jerry Mozqueda, another former Perot campaign volunteer, put in:  “It’s just a mater of time before blacks in South L.A. are overrun and disappear.  There’s a culture in South L.A. that’s going to hold power the next hundred years.  “South Los Angeles is the new haven for Latinos. There will soon be so many Latinos living here that the years to come it’ll make East Los Angeles look like a trading post.” Most significantly, says Southside Latino activist, is that the Chicano movement in their area is not bound to old Latino political leaders or their agendas.

“We are not controlled by [farm labor leaders] Cesar Chavez, [county Supervisor] Gloria Molina or [City Councilman] Richard Alatorre,” says Sotomayor.  Adds Mozqueda;  “Politically speaking, we’re talking about a political Lotto game in which the Latino in South Los Angeles, especially the immigrants who’ll someday become citizens, are the big prize.  “Latino immigrants can no longer be taken for granted,” admits Ernie Delgado, Councilwoman Water’s legislative deputy.  “They are beginning to understand that there is power in numbers.”  Those numbers, say new movement leaders, were long ignored by even establishment Latino political leaders who failed to recognize the long-range potential of Latin immigrants.  “They couldn’t vote so they were written off.”  Said Sotomayor.  Unfortunately, in the process, so were a lot of us who could vote but who didn’t live in the barrios usually associated with Latinos.  “Its sad to say it took someone, an outsider like Ross Perot, to give us a chance to feel like we belong in the political system.”

You skirted the fact that Obama blew the super majority. I voted for Obama also! If it's only the coalition he's pleasing, we'll see if they're big enough to get him the votes he needs to get re-elected! He blew it and you know it, or you're under a spell! He's such a dumbazz he never apologized! He's not worth sticking up for, especially after he blew it again 12/2010 to get rid of Bush Tax Cuts, give job incentives, and get training programs out there to get us our money and jobs! I haven't had an increase in Social Security for over 2.5 years! Those are my interest and many blacks and poor Americans!

You obviously didn't understand my reasons for letting the Tea Party win. Read it again. You'll see it's a plan to move us forward! We won't do that with Obama getting a second term. Obama's moving us backward! He's selling us out wholesale! Obama might as well be a Republican. You're already looking at the results of a Tea Party President if you pull that mask off Obama! Under it you'll find a Tea Party guy running trickle down economics, keeping the banks and big business fat, and blacks in a depression while the country is really in a recession, giving away our social programs and jobs!

Let a real Tea Party guy be President and wake America up, bite their butts, rile them up, so they tear it up, and burn it up! Then we're ready to elect people that will make sure we all have jobs with good pay, social programs better than ever, and America is full speed ahead! Obama has us going in reverse! Obama is the worse thing that could happen to America at this time! He's acting like the Tea Party! That's counter productive! We're not rioting right now because too many people are under Obama's hypnotic spell of false hope when he's demonstrated he not going to do what he says he will! HE'S WORTHLESS!

You write, "I agree, I'd like Pres. Obama, in his next term, to focus on building the strong middle class responsible for American economic power. I am smart and rational enough to know he can only do this if he has the support of the masses of people who elected him. They were the young, the poor, the working poor, the permanent underclass, and minorities of all ages, races, and genders."

What is Obama doing for those who elected him?! He's screwing them! It's the poor that are giving the big profits from cheap labor! What you don't understand is that if he doesn't start getting money in the hands of the poor, the middle class jobs will continue to shrink! We are all interdependent! A policy to clear the poor and middle class debt is a move in the right direction that will energize and zip us out of this recession virtually overnight if he also gets rid of the Bush Tax Cuts and tax those fat coffers that are not creating jobs. He knows this is a hostage situation! I said it first on YouTube! I hope he's still listening!

Soon as he got in office, he started preaching the Republican line on PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY when GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITY is the reason we don't have enough jobs!

Obama laid the blame on the people for not having jobs and caused those college grads that voted for him to stay in college, running up more debt! Those that decided not to stay in college and job hut, have bad credit against them getting employed now! Can't keep up with loan payments! Obama preached education and have more lined up for the same results because he's not obligating government to create a better system of job creation or higher taxes on the rich. If they are going to invest overseas and leave us jobless, it's reasonable that they should pay much higher taxes to compensate for it! It's the only way to keep the economy stimulated and enough money invested in American job creation!

Grocery and gas prices are gone up on the poor and minorities are still reaping high unemployment! Where's the payoff for those who voted for Obama! Please tell me! I voted for Obama and no Social Security increase, product downsizing and grocery prices are sucker punching me every time I go to the store! Where's the beef! What's he done for us but kick us under the bus!

What's the symptom of an Obama hypnotic spell?! IQ is above average but still making excuses for Obama! That's you! My sister, I love you, but you seriously need an intervention! Don't go crazy on me. Get something to eat, take a nap, wake up and realize you deserve much better than Obama now and for a second term if he doesn't pull a rabbit out of his hat and get significant job increases for blacks and the economy on track!

It's time we stop getting ignored and given the wait card! Time to stop automatically giving Democrats our votes and getting nothing in return but more empty promises! Tell Obama blacks have a jobs problem and he needs to sweeten it, or 2012 he needs to be beaten it! Put on a Michael Jackson outfit, moon walk, and tell him to beat it, by video! Then tell him don't let the door knob hit him in the butt on the way out!

Peace and real love my sister. Real love requires action that benefits you. That's what I'm trying to get Obama to do for you and all races! We need to tell him with one loud voice so he has no escape! This is a crisis! Obama needs to implement Executive Order and do his job we sent him there for, not in a second term, but NOW! This is the way forward! We need to play politics from a position of strength! A three cord strand is hard to break. A MULTITUDE SPEAKING WITH ONE VOICE WILL MOVE A MOUNTAIN! Let's keep it real.

God's love.

The narrow vision of the Republican Party accounts for the specious premise of "trickle down" not Pres. I couldn't agree more brother. You're far more informed on the subject of Obama's team and the New World Order players and exactly what is involved. Most people can see Obama is not playing the game for the people but as part of those bent on our destruction! I see the genocide! Capitalism under the NWO is a sophisticated system of slavery and a tool for genocide! It doesn't have to be run that way if the people demand business be obligated to country first! There's no real reason we can't have enough jobs but for politicians getting paid off and not tending to the needs of the people! NWO should be abolished if it can't do that! You just can't let free markets go unregulated on basic needs and jobs in a country! Look at what it's doing to economies around the world! The instability and grief is ridiculous! It's demonic!

David B. Byrd said:
