Black Public Intellectuals...exactly what are their roles?

I listen to Tavis and Cornel West every week and it seems as if their main purspose is to "bash" the President (Obama). It appears their main point has to do with the poor and working class segment of the black community, and that Obama should do something legislatively to help them.

I'm not necessarily in disagreement, although this narrow approach would be inconsistent with the role of the "black public intellectual" throughout history. It appears to me that men like Frederick Douglass (whom West seems to pattern himself after), not only moved Lincoln with regards to Emmancipation, but also moved blacks to be prepared to control their own destiny.

Booker T. Washington had the same ideology, as did W.E.B. DuBois, although their methodologies clashed. Again to them black's had the power to control their destinies...this helped fuel the ideology of the "New Negro" after World War I, which was prominent throughout the Harmlem renaissance. We saw Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X though different in approach both say that it was the duty of black America to be prepared to move forward themselves.

This approach that Tavis and West have implemented places the responsibility of black progress soley and in unprecedented fashion on the shoulders of the President of the United States (who ironically is the FIRST black President in history). I argue that this approach will gather listeners to their radio show...but will not lead to black progress. To sit in "ivory towers" such as Princeton and PBS (and everyother media affiliate that Tavis participates) and throw stones does nothing for the disenfranchised and the poor.

Movement starts from the grassroots participating and making things happen...not merely commentating and criticizing. It is my opinion that this does more to line the pockets of so-called "black public intellectuals" than to really offer change. I would argue that this type of leadership is a result of hypocritical men like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton subsequent to running for president. Neither thought they would win...they were simply positioning themselves for power in the black community. As a result neither one of these gentlemen are hurting financially and neither are Smiley and West....in the name of the black poor.

We are in an era where it pays many jobless non-performers to sound politically correct and change coats like chameleons. In all departments of the game (safe for reining in Wall Street where I am still expecting much better performance), Obama has returned 'A' performance in his club of U.S. Presidents; living or dead. Those with bad bile should see their doctors.

No sane person is saying that Obama or his government should not be criticized when there is genuine cause to do so. That is integral to our democratic system of governance. The economy Obama inherited was worse than the 'Bushmen and women' keepers of the treasury were willing to divulge. I am simply amazed that none of the noisemakers in the media against the Obama administration is concerned that Hank Paulson and company would make a deal with Bank of America to ship another $20 billion of taxpayer money to that bank to illegally protect their failing financial empires through underhand acquisitions. Yet all manner of noisemakers can waste everyone's time shouting to the rooftops about unemployment as if the activities of people like Countywide's Mozilo, ex-Treasury Secretary's Hank Paulson, Washington Mutual's Kerry Killinger, Bernie Madoff and their marauding gangs of economic killers and saboteurs and others too numerous to list were not the monstrous machines that spun the economic collapse and job debacle for millions of Americans! Noisemakers against a hardworking Obama need to find better pastimes. The Destiny Child is going to win again and your noise will do nothing to stop him! Find better pastimes.

You're only partly right! There is a place for government in the total solution and there can be no total solution without them! Everyone must be playing by the  same rules and under the same protections and privileges to succeed! Only government is big enough to do that! Only government can harness the economic ability to even the playing field!

People can go to school, work hard, gather in neighborhood groups to accomplish needed services and objectives. After all of that, if government is not keeping people employed by regulation of the economy, and controlling a significant amount of the money, how will a bunch of broke people accomplish anything that amounts to much?!

It's about the money and fair opportunity, my brother. The government needs to make sure to provide those services and weigh in when needed to provide stability to our economy! This herky jerky economy doesn't work! People's lives rise and fall with the Dow. Today they have a new car, great house, wonderful wife, picket fence, and a dog. Dow goes down too long and people lose it all, and soon standing in the soup line! What kind of crap is that?!

Allowing our jobs to go overseas don't work! Trading high tech exports for low tech imports don't work because you're destroying more jobs than you're creating! Thus, the destruction of our tax base and Odumbma bowing to do spending cuts instead of raising taxes on those responsible for investing overseas instead of jobs in America! He's taking from the poor to please the rich! It don't work!

Odumbma is borrowing from China instead of raising taxes on the rich! Printing more money instead of raising taxes on the rich! That's what Odumbma is doing! That's what he decided to do as soon as he allowed the Bush Tax Cuts to ride though he had a super majority to stop it! He's a tool of the New World Order, advising things like trade agreements that work against us! Pushing education without job creating obligations! That's just ladening the people with a huge debt! It's disingenuous! It's appropriately called "kicking the can down the road"! That's what Odumbma is doing! Personal debt and low wages is part of why we don't have enough spenders to create jobs!

Every American needs to do their part in preparing to be productive! The government needs to be astute enough to intervene when needed to make sure we're going to have the needed jobs and to help people be productive with job training and job incentives! They shouldn't be getting paid to spectate and provide lip service to real problems like Odumbma does! He's had unlimited power with a super majority to change things and squandered it! Why is anyone foolish enough to offer an excuse and give him a pass at this late date! It's totally inappropriate and egregious to do so!

You're only half right my brother. It's disingenuous to minimize the government's role in straightening out our affairs, revving our economy, and providing us with decent jobs that pay a living wage! They are providing us slop because we are letting them get away with it! We are giving Odumbma a pass while he screws us! From there, the grave beckons!

If the politicians find you contented to eat slop, that is all you'll get! The wages of being contented with slop is death, the extinguishing of the light, the surrendering of hope, and the sad acceptance of living in the muck and mire eating slop!

It's disingenuous and egregious to minimize the protest of the people against Odumbma as crying over spilt milk! It's more like a dairy being blown up daily and depriving babies of sustenance needed to survive and strive.

It's great that your needs are taken care of and I suppose it gives you license to not care about those subjected to a daily struggle with their credit destroyed, grocery prices gone up, denied standard of living increases for 3 years, just one step from sleeping in the street. Many can't afford to keep their house heated or cooled as needed. Their neighborhoods growing more dangerous by the day as funds for police have been cut and desperate people are driven to crime.

You call it crying over spilt milk when opportunities Odumbma passed on has set the course of daily struggle, misery, and threat of life! How narrow minded and short of sight you must be to relegate the harm as crying over spilt milk! You're smart enough to take on college but yet seem lacking of mental capabilities to comprehend the full measure of the circumstances Odumbma has caused us to have to endure!

You best hope the bottom don't drop out and your education quickly becomes obsolete as millions of others have found recently. Maybe you think you're being directed to the right course study. You'd better hope people who are raising their voices against the injustice and complacency Odumbma has allowed, save your unsympathetic, unaffectionate, pachydermatous azz!

He's recently signed more trade agreements which take more American jobs overseas while he tells us it means more jobs for America! He did nothing for a whole year with a super majority to bring American jobs back! Instead, he pushed personal responsibility and education which are Republican lines to push the blame for joblessness to the American people's education while they send our jobs to cheaper labor overseas! There was no stop gap solution while we wait on education and technology to bring us more jobs! Meanwhile, Odumbma did nothing for a full year to bring our jobs back that we could be doing now! That will cause them to not only run the financial markets but the government as well. We all see what the Republicans and Tea Party are doing now but it will get worst. You think blacks don't have enough jobs now. Well, everyone could kiss Affirmative Action good-bye too when blacks are kicked out of management positions in business and schools and everyplace else. You think too many of our young men are in jail now.  There the rest of them will go and the old black men will be getting strung up somewhere.

If the government is not soo deplorably dumb, how do you explain the fact that we're still in the mess the Bush Administration caused, allowed to cause it in the first place, Odumbma had every reason, given his promises, the popular vote, a super majority able to vote in the needed laws, given a year to analyze, calculate, and strategize a way to get the economy revving, and Wall Street, banks, and government criminals jailed?!

That may be too much to explain, so, tell me, why are we still stuck in a bad economy while the Bush Tax Cuts are still riding when we need the revenues to help solve the economy, like provide job incentives and job training?! Why not regulate trade to bring back and protect American jobs, give subsidies to provide environmentally friendly manufacturing?! Why do we still have massive numbers of people unemployed to the tune of 13-14 million, blacks unemployed at twice the national average of 9% or 16-18%, real black unemployment at 20-30%, 50% of black males unemployed, global economies suffering due to the biggest market in the world sitting on fat coffers of big business and the banks?!

Why are we tolerating banks and corporations too big to fail when we knew they were a problem at the onset of the Odumbma Presidency with a super majority?! Why haven't they been wound down to manageable size by now?! Why do these virtual monopolies still have us in jeopardy?! Why aren't there laws to force investments and job creation in America?! Why isn't Odumbma rallying to get the people to vote directly since we have a dysfunctional congress compromised with campaign contributions, deserving to have criminal charges brought against them, who are playing politics, instead of responsibly dealing with this economic crisis?!

At least tell me you're awake enough to know this is a dumb set of circumstance that could have been avoided if Odumbma had done the job we sent him to do as he also promised! Show me you're not as dumb as Penguin Board of Directors who's only interested is casting dispersions on me to direct attention away from Odumbma's complacency and utter stupidity! I've been trying to get into people's head to determine why after Odumbma has blown it soo bad, they want another round of that! I'm serious about that. You've seen my arguments against voting for Odumbma even if it's to avoid having a Republican in office again. I fear Odumbma more than them at this point. He's doing another trade agreement when we need more jobs. It likely means losing more manufacturing low tech jobs than the high tech jobs we create. He's made it clear he's willing to trade social benefits for more revenues that should have been gained by getting rid of Bush Tax Cuts and getting a bigger stimulus package!

Somehow it's escaping us that we're being sold out wholesale by a guy that represented himself as being for us! It's about the middle class with Odumbma. Even that has to be in questioned since they are dependent on GDP and people able to buy products and services! To me Odumbma is shaky and fakey! I can't bring myself to ever trusting him again! He's given me every reason not to! I don't understand how people are seeing something different. But then, if you're thinking you're going to benefit from the education appropriations or some other Odumbma program, it makes more sense to me that you are supporting a monster that takes from the poor to please the rich! Takes a lousy human being to be like that! I believe that's what I'm dealing with in Obamabots. They are riding the gravy train in one form or another!

It would help if you guys could come up with something better than you fear what Republicans will do with social programs or the dumbest of all "Obama is black" or "Hey, Bush had 8 year to mess it up, so why not give Obama 8 years to fix it". 12 years of hell suggest we've given everybody too much time after one term! Especially after he's proved he's not up to the job after the first year! I'm all for recalling Presidents if they start going wrong the first 9 months! I could go for "It means seeing Michelle Obama doing jumping jakes more, or watching her walk across the stage". Lord knows I love watching that tall, fine, sexy women! You might even reason, "Hey, Obama can't be all bad, Michelle Obama married him". I'm joking but I do like those reasons better than the ones you guys give. True dat, "anger and name calling will not help the situation" but it is the likely response when approached with them. Like what Christine R. Rickett posed:

Such ill-conceived characterizations and portrayal of people with real complaints and reasons for being against Odumbma getting a second term should not be represented that way! We're people who are holding Odumbma accountable! Such huge missteps can't be put in the past and separated from moving forward because the damage continues to be done daily. It's permanently glued to your daily struggle! It's the "spilled milk" that keeps on spilling! The right approach is to get rid of the loser who did it and then move forward. Losers should not be rewarded!

Obamabots are offended at name calling on Odumbma and attach no legitimacy to the name calling. They'd be better to defend Odumbma without attacking Odumbma name callers, they disgracefully call haters, like me, because it's all we have against people in power doing dumb things to mess up our lives! We have no army and would be stupid to fight a war. We have no other recourse. So, we bad mouth the hell out of the sorry azz fool! So, we name call and tell Obamabots they're stupid.

Either join us in bringing down fools as we vent our displeasure or leave us alone. Obamabots don't have to escalate it considering they have no real defense for the foolish blunders of Odumbma's actions! It's senseless that they continue to excuse and make apologies for Odumbma! Couldn't be more stupid to justify giving him another term! He's a proven loser! It makes people angry and results in name call! It's reality in the war for decent living space! It would be foolish to think emotions can be contained under such conditions! It's not normal! You'll just wreck yourself.

So, Obamabots will continue to be called Obamabots and told they make no sense or called stupid in their defense of Obama! When they take it another level and attack us verbally, they will get a response in kind. It's only natural. Don't get your draws in a bunch over it. Sensible people will return a stupid attack for a stupid attack and let it be.

The problem is, Obamabots continuing to try justifying a stupid defense, instead of accepting that it's stupid and gracefully bow out like you're doing. Not that I add you with the rest of the stupid defenders. You just try to avoid it.  That's better because it doesn't have you stupidly trying to defend an idiot! Not that I really consider them stupid people that do. Their defense is stupid. Their reason for giving him a second term is double stupid! Stupid compounded is asinine with exponents! So be careful because representing the truth as "false propaganda" will line you up with the rest of the Obamabot stupids.

They are defending with what little Odumbma leaves them. Nothing really. So, they deflect and misdirect, run past and around the issue that condemns Odumbma. They do it with no real respect for the truth or consideration of the harm done by Odumbma's stupid decisions! Anger is natural when that happens.

Blogs are good therapy. That way you don't end up in a rubber room behind the foolish, balless, half-stepping, slackazz moves Odumbma makes. There, I feel better after saying all of that. Ignoring me is the best solution when you don't have a reasonable defense. It just invites anger when a stupid defense or ill-conceived characterization is submitted. After all, we're talking dumb decisions that are affecting the daily lives of real people. We're talking Odumbma's betrayal of us! People need to be shocked awake. Let's keep it real! Peace.
