According to Leflore County coroners, an unidentified black male in his twenties was discovered about 12:30 pm Friday afternoon hanging in a tree in a field in Greenwood, Mississippi. I have heard much discussion about this “supposed suicide”. Clearly, this scene is a throwback to the 50′s and 60′s and cries of race mob induced lynching. Personally, I must have all my information before making any assumptions. In order to “fight the power”, one must have a clear mind and secure all facts before making a case.
There needs to be mainstream attention brought to Greenwood, Mississippi pending a full investigation. The action itself is cause for a nationwide stir regardless of who is responsible, black or white. And yes, historically, Mississippi is notorious for its racial tension and continued segregation. I am quite familiar with the ongoing racial issues in Greenwood and for that matter throughout the nation. If this is in fact a race-related/hate crime, then Mississippi will need to bring swift resolution or continue to wear its scarlet letter. Let us also consider the violent gang activity and black-on-black crime in Greenwood as well. Furthermore, let us consider the symbolism here; a black man hanging from a tree in the fields of Mississippi clearly points fingers elsewhere – “It must have been a racist white man who did this.” Again, let us get the facts first.
In short, a new year is upon us. We are not living in the 50′s. It is 2010, soon 2011… let us push Greenwood authorities to get this case wrapped up quickly. Be mindful, most local agencies do not want the feds in their business. But I am certain the FBI has already assumed much of this investigation. And if not, phone calls will be made.
We deserve the truth.

I have thought this for YEARS.  But let me add to your statement by saying :  White people have blinders on, so they have a VERY hard time believing the truth.  They think I'm some kind of radical whacko revolutionary when I mention it. 

 

As for the rest... they think I'm just trying to "stir things up", so I'm not trusted.  The result is that...because of the color of my skin (and my Irish heritage doesn't help) nobody believes me when I point this out.  I'm always told to sit down and shut up...regardless of who I tell.

 

Sad that it takes someone whose skin happens to be a different color before anybody will listen.  But I'll wager that YOU still get the same kinds of reactions that I do.

 

Hmm... maybe if we join forces people will realize its NOT a racial issue...but a PEOPLE issue.  What do you think?

And yes... I'd read them :) And I'd recommend them.  And I don't recommend very many authors.

 

As for what you've written... I really do believe you are not only right...but TOO right.  And the trouble with discriminatory violence spilling out is that it NEVER is restricted to just one group.  It goes to any group which is seen as being a minority.  This includes not only blacks, but anybody who isn't white.  It is not restricted on account of sexuality, but anything other than straight and you can bet that they become targets as well.  Just look at cases like Matthew Shepard.  That sort of thing WILL happen again (if it hasn't already).

 

And in ALL of these cases...cops just file them away and look away...doing nothing more than putting out the story that they have no leads.  In other words, unless the killer(s) walk in the door with their hands covered in the blood of their victims...and confess...handing over the bloody murder weapon...the odds of a conviction are slim.

 

And even then, odds are on favorate that they will be handed a light sentance.  5-10 years for "manslaughter" rather than being put away forever.

 

And yes, I'm opposed ot the death penalty for many reasons.  I believe that the worst punishment possible would be to lock somebody up for 100 years per person that they kill.  Being locked up with killers, thieves and deviated whako's for the rest of your life is a punishment far worse than death, in my humble opinion.

 

As for Obama... I'm upset with him, sure.  But he's no worse than any other president we've had since Nixon.  Its my feeling that he's just another puppet for the rich.  Why should skin color matter?  This idea that the color of skin dictates any real difference between humans has always been strange to me.  I think its probably an american thing.

 

But we make or remake ourselves in the image of the person we wish to be.  There is NOTHING about ourselves that we cannot change if we wish to... and we can change ourselves into anything we wish.

 

It is long past time that Congress broke up the media conglomerates (to put the power of the media BACK into the hands of the locals) and started to promote the simple idea that the color of skin is irrellevant. 

 

Lets face it.  We cannot turn back the clock...but we CAN push ourselves and our children into a better future.  One where everyone has an equal opportunity for a first class education, a good job and a neighborhood where its safe to walk down the street at night...and where you don't need bars on your windows.

 

I know... the way to do these things is called "Socialism".  But we are all socialists already.  Its just a matter of getting things organized so that we all benifit.

Well over HALF of the US Dollar goes to fighting wars around the world which...lets face it...are to gain and/or maintain control of the worlds resources.  Meanwhile, our own resources remain untouched because workers have been "layed off" by corporations who have shut down plants in order to move those jobs to places where they can have union organizers killed. ... in countries where labor is payed slave wages (aka just enough for a bowl of rice per day) and safety standards can be completely ignored.

 

So what do we do here at home?  We argue about cutting more social programs so that the rich can get still richer with more tax breaks.  We argue about race and gender and sexuality (will Bill and Ted have the right to get married and pay the same tax rate as other couples?  Tune in tomorrow !).  We argue about whether or not global warming exists ... all while the worst storms ever to hit the planet roam around trashing whole cities.  We watch staged "reality" tv shows and debate who the best dancer or singer is.  We bicker amongst ourselves about how we can clean up our streets...and we argue about gun control...while people who haven't the mental presence of mind to tell the difference between right and wrong are out buying guns.

 

America isn't a nation.  Its a corporation that controls the lives of people.  It sells death and violence while pumping our airwaves and the rest of our media with material designed to divide and distract from the needs of the nation it claims to be.

 

We've been taught from childhood to FEAR socialism.  But how many people actually know what socialism IS ?  Its certainly not communism.  Communism is the act of putting power into the hands of a few with the empty promise that someday the many might be rewarded.

 

This is not socialism.  Socialism means exactly what the word says.  It puts SOCIAL issues first.  Issues that are important for the people who live in a nation.  These issues...such as housing, healthcare, safety etc. etc. are all given priority.  Socialism is literally a form of government where the needs of the many outweigh the greed of the few.

 

And it terrifies the rich.  Imagine...having to pay just as much taxes as the poor?  OMG !  The HORROR!  THE HORROR !

 

True socialism doesn't waste resources.  On anything.  If you are convicted of murder, you don't spend the next 20 years doing your best to hold off the executioners Axe... Instead, there is no Axe.  You are given a looong sentance.  You will suffer a slow death of spirit as you come to realize...that the evil men you are locked up with....some of them will eventually be given freedom...but YOU never will.

 

In a socialism society, everyone is equal regardless of race...because race is recognized as being neither a hinderence nor a help.  For some, that might be seen as a terrible thing.  For those unwilling to take advantage of an educational system where higher education is open for everyone...well...they get what they deserve.

 

I'm going to stop now... as I've a suspicion that I've probably ticked off a lot of people.  But before I go, I just want to say that...I'm a socialist because I have come to believe that a parlementary system is better than what we have...and putting the needs of the many ahead of the greed of the few happens to be a philosophy that makes sense to me.
