"The U.S. military bombed about 300 tons of poppy seeds in a dusty field in southern Afghanistan Tuesday in a dramatic show of force designed to break up the Taliban’s connection to heroin…

The military dropped a series of 1,000-pound bombs from planes on the mounds of poppy seeds and then followed with strikes from helicopters.

Tony Wayne, with the U.S. State Department, said the strikes on poppy seeds, that can be used to make opium and heroin, is part of a strategy shift for the military to stop the Taliban and other insurgents from profiting from drugs." http://www.registan.net/index.php/2009/07/22/what-is-going-on-in-th...What is going on with the poppy fields?

The drug trade grew since the Americans invaded Afghanistan. The Taliban were in the process of destroying the poppy fields. That one of many reasons that the U.S. went into Afghanistan.

How does drug trafficking affect our American youth? Is it in the best interest of America to stop drug trafficking in the urban centers of this country?
I have no evidence that our troops are guarding Big Pharmacy's investment in the poppy, but I sure know why they would. Of the top 30 prescribed medications in the USA, four were an opiate(of the poppy). Vicodin, hydrocodone, pecrocet and codeine. Those are four that are legally prescribed, that have been accounted for through the licensing of medical doctors with their license #'s. Those numbers don't even begin to address the number of other opiate medications legally prescribed, such as, oxycontin, percodan, darvocet, darvan, morphine, dilaudid. Again, legally prescribed and quite addictive. That doesn't even begin to account for the illegal sale of those exact drugs. I'm not just talking about street selling drugs. Included in the illegal drugs sales are Pharmacists, Medical Doctors, Physicians assistants all selling "on the side" for big profit. Then there are the pain clinics, quite common in Florida, giving the above drugs out like ice cream at a street fair. I'd hate to lose another soldier to the cause of the American Pharmaceutical and their legalized drug sales of the very addictive poppy.

Joans,

Thanks for letting us know the volume of psychotropic (psychotomimetic) substances traveling down the throats of hapless millions of Americans of all color, race and creed. I am going to research these named substances to get a fair amount of toxicity buried deep in them. No wonder the growing army of recruits into commercialized prisons and a flowing stream of the newly-stoned in Hollywood engaging the lenses of the paparazzi.

Oh, say that with all due respect.
What..... poppies in Afghanistan only bloom once every ten years? That's how long the US has been in Afghanistan. So now the euro/amero coalition of aggressors decide to implement a poppy eradication program? Aren't they supposed to be leaving?  LIE! LIE! LIE!
