An unprecedented attack on the right to vote is about to happen in Florida -- a state that George Bush "won" by just 573 votes in 2000.
Florida Governor Rick Scott is trying to purge state voter rolls just before a key election. Scott's purge will give 180,000 Floridians — 87% of whom are people of color — 30 days to prove their citizenship. Any person who does not provide proof will be dropped from the rolls and deemed ineligible to vote. If this reckless plan succeeds, thousands of eligible voters could be disenfranchised. It could sway upcoming primary elections, and the presidential election.
Please join us, and our partners at Florida New Majority, in demanding that Florida officials stop this purge, and asking the DOJ to investigate Governor Scott and Secretary Dentzler for violating the law.
Below are the letters we'll send on your behalf (you can add a personal comment using the box on the right)
Dear Governor Rick Scott, Secretary Ken Dentzler and Florida county election officials,
I am writing to demand that you bring an immediate end to Florida's unlawful voter purge. By defying the Department of Justice demand to stop the purge, you've now placed thousands of eligible voters in jeopardy of losing their right to vote. This shouldn't happen in a true democracy and must stop now.
That's why I'm also calling on the U.S. Attorney General and the Department of Justice to investigate you for the violation of the National Voter Registration Act of 2003 and the Voting Rights Act of 1963. Floridians deserve elected officials who can be trusted to protect their right to vote.
I urge you to stop this purge now and restore the right to vote to all Floridians who have already been unlawfully purged.
Please join us, and our partners at Florida New Majority, in demanding that Florida officials stop this purge, and asking the DOJ to investigate Governor Scott and Secretary Dentzler for violating the law. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION BY FOLLOWING THE LINK BELOW AND PASS IT ON. MAKE A DIFFERENCE
