Black America is missing in the discussion of America's innovation policy and global economic competitiveness. I haven't heard any significant series of discussions/debates by Smiley & West on the 21st century Innovation Economy and the voluntary exclusion of Black/Brown peoples from the rapid growth of new industries and risk capital processes.

I would love to get us focused on discussions of the 21st century Innovation Economy and its three core pillars:

  • STEM Education (science, technology, engineering and math) and Workforce Development
  • High-Growth Entrepreneurship
  • Access to Capital and Risk Capital Formation

Can Black America get engaged and compete in America's 21st century Innovation Economy?

I think it starts with us elevating what's important to us to the level of national discourse.
