I don't want you to forget that it has not been signed yet. Also, tell me a little about him taking on the entire Congress in order to save the middle class. After all, unless I am mistaken, jobs and the economy and class warfare is at the forefront. How does he rank on that? Americans are loving him, how about you? Or perhaps human suffering and GOP callousness means nothing to you.
If you don't like President Obama then it is based upon your neo-colonial self hatred and inward jealousy that a black male reached the pinnacle of american success. You can keep your head in the sand all you want to and pretend that he has done nothing to help black, white, latino, asian americans but just a footnote, the latino community loves him! Maybe they understand that your other choice the GOP wants your children to drop out of school and become janitors! Or maybe you like the fact that the GOP wants to roll back civil rights to the 60s by denying you the right to vote. Or maybe its the healthcare law that they want to turn back on you or maybe its the execution of an innocent black man that you love from the GOP. Say what you will but this President continues to work tirelessly even when the GOP voted to raised your payroll taxes by 1,000.00 and then went home for Christmas, but I don't hear you talking about that! Maybe you should read more and practice self love so you will learn how to stop hating on this man. Get your facts straight "angry woman."

To be clear, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has already been passed by Senate and House so NOW IT IS ABSOLUTELY WITHIN OBAMA'S POWER TO VETO THIS ASSALT ON AMERICAN CITIZENS' CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, if he desires. Obama gets "F" in ALL categories of presidential responsibility and accountability for ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS and NOBODY I KNOW is loving him at all...the fact that you would even think it w/b ok to respond with such a deliberate false notion, does not really speak very high of YOU. In fact, the reality is that obama has NOT done anything for any African Americans nor other minority groups which is just shameful on so many different levels given the few, like you, whom seem to just can't stop trying - UNSUCCESSFULLY MIND YOU - to defend his NON-civil rights, NON-civil liberties, NON-human rights, ABSOLUTELY NON-ECONOMIC AND HORRIFICALLY NON-POVERTY records on policies addressing such critical issues of the day.
Obama won't even acknowledge, let alone attempt to address, the needs of ANY African Americans which is why NONE OF US SHOULD FEEL OBLIGATED TO AGAIN VOTE FOR HIM MERELY BASED ON HIS COMPLEXION AND ASSUMED ETHNICITY....I say lets ignore him the way he has continued to ignore Blacks during the past three years. I can't even imagine him returning to Chicago's Hyde Park community after he LOSES the upcoming campaign given how he has tragically ignored any indication or notion of care and concern for the inner-city African American Middle, Working or Poor classes whom ALL graciously, grandly and honorably supported his epic and historic political rise - I wander what that will feel like for him...hmm - knowing all of these Black people honorably and proudly campaigned and supported his historical rise first to U.S. Senator and then President - and once he (obama) got in White House, what did he do FOR THEM? Well, he decided to get in bed with the repeatedly proven Abusive and "harmful to all minorities" Government Intelligence Agencies (Hoover's and Bush's legacy to Obama via Patriot Act with historical tragic ties to Cointelpro and NOW Obama's own signature NDAA....
AND NOW come to find out EEOC too is NOT being required to defend OUR (African Americans') workplace civil, constitutional and human rights? Tell me what has Obama's Administration done to acknowledge and address this African-American specific Government-Agency problem? I guess I just believe that African Americans deserve much more than what's been given (NOT) by this GOP-acting, War-loving and Constitution-hating current Administration....really saddens me when I think of what obama has become...a consummate of hypocrisy...

Permalink Reply by james wilson on December 29, 2011 at 9:01pm I agree with Bennetta. Clearly she has been paying attention to important things. The prof. is caught up in fantasy land; trying to defend the indefensible, i.e., the track record of this administration, which is 100% controlled by what Howard Dean has accurately called, " the Republican wing of the Democratic party."
The Prof.'s claim that this administration has defended the "middle class" is the exact opposite of reality. Every policy of this administration has been against the middle and poor classes, and in the interest of the 1%, or more accurately, the top 10%. Which is why their implementation have been put off until after the 2012 election. If these policies were so good for the public, it seems to me, they would have been implemented ASAP.
Healthcare reform, the Republican version pushed by this administration, forces people to buy inferior policies with no price controls. The traditional Democratic versions of "single payer" and "public option" were blocked by this administration from even being discussed. Therefore, there is nothing to stop what was the primary problem with health care in the first place--exorbitant cost. People will still go bankrupt trying to pay medical bills.
One of the first acts of this administration was to appoint, in the midst of a jobs crisis, not a jobs commission, but a "deficit commission" headed by right-wingers to cut social safety nets of the middle class such as Social Security and Medicare for the elderly middle class, and Medicaid for the poor.
This was followed by 50% cuts to heating assistance and other programs for the poor. These are indisputable facts! Then, as result of the feint "debt ceiling" issue, the admission signed into law a congressional junta to cut these programs by $1.5 trillion. The president has said that any attempt to stop these cuts will be vetoed by him. And what are these cuts? Medicare by hundreds of billions, Medicaid by hundreds of billions, and Social Security directly by raising the retirement age and lowering benefits, or indirectly by undermining (defunding) it with "payroll tax cuts for employees and employers. There is no such thing as a "payroll tax." The FICA deductions are workers' Social Security retirement investments. One would think the prof. would know these rather simple things.
Moreover, the policy of outsourcing jobs has excerated under this administration. So called free trade agreements such as the recent ones with South Korea, Panama, and Colombia will, according to economists will cause millions of middle class jobs. That's helping the middle class, right Pro. Sanders?
One could go on and on about how this adminstration is hurting the middle and poor classes. That's why every credible study clearly staes that more and more "middle class" people are becoming impoverish, while the rich are getting richer during the last three years. For the poor, and near poor, things are so bad that folk have taken to outright fantasizing that they are doing better than ever.
The prof. is obviously one of the latter. Just making up stuff outright, or assigning value to trivia like the "accomplishments" he listed. None of which have any relevance to the real lives of suffering people.
No the Professor understands one clear reality! The BLACK RACE WILL NEVER BE RESPECTED BY THE GOP BECAUSE OF ITS UTTER DISRESPECT AND IGNORANCE. That is why Newt can tell you negros that your only role models are drug dealers, pimps, and prostitutes, and the best your kids can hope for is working as janitors but you don't say a word do you? Mitt Romney can tell you that you need to collect your food stamps and be happy. Ron Paul tells you that he will continue to garner the support of white supremacists and hate groups who despise blacks, jews and gays and again you are quiet. Write down all the rhetoric you want about my President but you are the one who is in dream land but let me wake you up! Who will you vote from these leading candidates? I understand your jealousy and self-hatred but I cannot wrap my mind around why your group are such cowards! Why won't you speak out against all of this injustice in america? The Occupy wall street movement addresses it. Its interesting that Bush gave these banks and businesses bail out money, they pocketed the money and are being protected from paying their taxes by McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, and the rest of the GOP because they are "job creators?" Tell me where are the jobs? I refuse to let you dumb me down as the 99% movement has awakened but your group remain asleep! Interesting enough, Mr. Obama will be President again! If you cannot handle that reality then there is Delta, Northwestern, Southwest, and Korean Air! Why don't each one of you and the GOP who are blocking the President's legislation go to a very far place outside of america so that we can rebuild it back from the brink of destruction that Bush and the GOP took us to.

First, let me make it clear. I, like most other Blacks don't give an ant's graduation prom about what "Newt
," or any other racists, of any party says. Most Blacks have long known what these people think of us. People sophistificated in policy analysis know that these people are simply appealing to their racist base, but if elected, they will do what all others do, including the present administration--lead their voters to Wall Street.
So give that crap a rest will you Prof. And let's deal with the real issues. Haven't you heard? "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." The sticks and stones that are hurting Black folk are these right -wing policies under a supposedly "Democratic" administration. The laws that are outright taking away civil liberties, economic policies that are impoverishing people (with Blacks suffering the most-- over $200 billion lost in home foreclosures over the last three years; unemployment rates, according to most economists hovering near 40%-50%). Did the racists you named do this to us "ignorant Black folk"? But wait, there is more; wealth transfers to the rich, and none of the people you named are president while these things are taking place. Did you know that Wall Street had a greater profit in the first 2.5 years of the present administration ($85.52 billion) than it did in 8 years of Bush ($77.17 billion)? Look it up.
In fact, research well before you go public with nonsense. If by knowing these things makes one "ignorant," then, since you are redefining reality anyway with your zealous tirades, I guess it's only fitting that you would consider being informed "ignorant," and being uninformed, such as yourself, "knowledgeable."

Permalink Reply by james wilson on December 30, 2011 at 2:14am Once again Professor, I must take you to school. Will you please pay attention!
You mentioned the Dodd-Frank Act. This legislation did nothing to address the core problems with the financial markets. The "too big to fail" are still doing business as before. If anything, Dodd-Frank facilitated more unlawful conduct which is why Wall Street's profits have grown exponentially since it's passage. (You need to study more.)
You mentioned which administration the "mortgage debacle" happened in, you are correct, the collapse occurred in the Wall Street, Neocon, Bush administration, but the etiology is based in the Clinton adminstration's repeal of Glass-Seagal in 1999. (You need to study more.)
You talk about TARP, the $700 billion bailout. But you fail to discuss, or perhaps you don't know, that the present president put his 2008 campaign on hold and traveled to D.C. to twist Democrats' arms in coercion to vote for it. Moreover, perhaps you don't know these things, but TARP was mere peanuts when compared to the over $12 trillion (with a T) that Wall Street has been given by this administration, according to a Senate committee report. (You need to study more.) Moreover, the banks were given (gifted) $75 billion by this administration to supposedly "keep people in their homes." But the program kept very few people in their homes because it was simply a publicity stunt to cover up it's real intent, which was to gift Wall Street. Why is it reasonable to think so? Because according to a CBO report, there were never any standard rules or guidelines to the program. (You need to study more.)
You referenced that Black unemployment has always been high. That is true. But Black unemployment was at about 11 % percent when the current administration took office in January 2009. Since then, depending whose stats are used, it has increased by over 5% to 7% offically, but unoffically, by more than 20%. (You need to study more.)
You stated that the current administration was elected to get the economy out of the "ditch." You are right in that assertion. The question is--has it done so? If you believe it has, other than increasing Wall Street's profits (as discussed in my earlier post) then there is no need to discuss matters with you any further, or farther, because you need another type of interview--on a couch.
You talk about a "do nothing congress": Standard re-election rhetoric. But the Congress passed numerous progressive bills between 2009 and 2010, including jobs and everything else, but it was the do-nothing administration that failed to give support to the progressive legislation. Instead, it only focused on right-wing Republican legislation like health care, and extending the Bush tax cuts--often cutting solo deals with the GOP to do it behind the backs of the Democrats. (You need to study more).
You say my argument does not hold water. I'm glad it doesn't. It is not supposed to. It is supposed to hold logic and facts. And that is what it holds.
You keep talking about GOP this and that. That's the problem with people like you --stuck in an obsolete Dem-GOP paradigm. The issue is no longer party but principle and policy. The Democratic party has become a carpon copy of the Republican party since Al From took it over in the 1980s with his DLC crap. (You need to study more.)
Now both parties serve Wall Street equally, in search of campaign donations.
You say I'm on the wrong site, no, you are on the wrong site. You need to go over to where Al Sharpton and the administration's other employees and zealots mumble nonsense passing as wisdom among the uninformed.
If you want to debate with me, Professor, I welcome it. But first you must become more informed, more conversant with the issues of debate and more emphatic with those these regressive policies are destroying.
