Smiley & Rice look ahead to the 2012 election and the
criticism of President Obama.

Rice: 90% of the blame I put on the lack of a movement. The movement in this country is on the far right.

Smiley: In the absence of that movement, critical voices are even more important.

The rhetoric is impeccable, but actions speak louder than words, how do you explain the Patriot act? How do you explain the War in Libya and his Nobel "Peace" Prize? There's nothing wrong when someone criticizes his policies, it's healthy, I'm not criticizing his race, you are. Race isn't even a factor in how I view him or anyone for that matter, all humans are human beings, equal, to Obama not so much, his preference and priorities lie in the corporate financial sector, not in the people that voted for him. Stop your delusions and wake up, but you can't because you're a troll, a troll that feeds off of his own delusions.

Re-elect President Obama!!!  I am not trying to put anyone off or insult anyone.  But I am not going to sit by and let anyone attach the first african-american president.  He is a great man. A good person. He is intelligent and very cool under fire.  He is thoughtful and pragmatic. He speaks correct English.   He married a black woman.   He is all the things we want our children to aspire to be.  Who is a better roll model for the black community than President Obama?  I am so proud to say I voted for him partly because he is black.  White folks been doing it for centuries.  I am just a proud Obamarobot!

Nazar, I fully agree with you. The guy needs to be ignored. Why the name-calling and insults? Frankly, I am very embarrassed by his responses to you and insulted by his responses to me. God bless him for voting for Obama but he merits no more responses from me. Trust all is well with you my brother!

Trollllllllllll!  When is the last time a progressive was elected President.  Progressives are unelectable trolllllll!  Trolllllllll, you know nothing how President obama thinks!

Don't even speak to the guy, he's a complete Obamarobot. I also agree that race should not be the defining factor for deciding whether to vote for the man or not.

I'm Eastern European, used to live in Los Angeles, if i still lived in the states, I would vote for Cynthia McKinney if she ran. She's a true hero. She's in Libya trying to figure out what is going on with Obama's war of terror.

You did not cite any specifics regarding what he has done or even attempted to do for African-Americans. Its ok but I am not prepared to vote for someone just because of their race. I think you share this principle as you have referenced Clarence Thomas several times.

I will say I love Michelle. She is the ultimate role model for African women. I have 4 daughters and regularly point out that Michelle is the coolest babe on the planet. That alone might get my vote. I can see her at some point running for office (Senate) or taking a senior position.

My point in this conversation is that we as African-Americans and as progressives need to put positive pressure on Obama to support a progressive agenda. Its not clear that he wants or would welcome such pressure but its very clear that we need to be organized to assert such pressure, regardless of who is President.

I love his war on Libya.  The President of Libya is a murderer who will slughter his own people.  he was give the "Nobel Peace Prize".  President Obma did not solicit the prize.  Plus he donated the prize money to charity.  Race will always be a factor in this society.  Why do you think 25% or more of the electorate hated him from day one.  Why do you think that he cannot connect to the white working class?  You are right when you say I am delusional in my support for President Obama.  I am and I am proud to say it.  Elderly black people would have loved to have had the opportunity to vote for the Obamas.  He is my man.  Being black is difficult enoiugh in this society.  Just think how difficult it is for a black man to be president of the U.S.  the President has had more death threats than any other president in history forom day one.  Why do you think there is such a mobilization by republicans to stop the President.  I cannot be disuaded from my support of the President.  Yes I am a troll, Obamarobot and every other negative you can spew but he is my President and he represents me.  I love him because he is black, has a black wife, works hard, is cool under fire, had the courage to take this thankless job, he is intelligent, not an Uncle Tom.  Re-elect President Obama.  If you don't like him start a third party, vote for a Republican!!!  I am a Obamarobot troll and I love him and his family.  He is doing a great job as fas as I and millions of othe Obamarobots are concerned.  Go President Obama Go!  We are with you all the way1

The grass roots movement has begun. Soon, you will start to hear about it. So, when you do, step up. get involved and let's make it happen.

So, the first black president who is having trouble with the tons of BS he has to deal with is under attack from the radical right and their cronies because Obama is not Jesus and can't walk on water, and wave his hand and solve all of our problems.

I have a lot of problems with Obama, but I would have a hell of a lot more if McCain had been elected. And, quiet as it is kept, so would a lot of other people. Many of the practical and realistic republicans are aware of what the radical republicans have started doing. I don't hear this troll saying anything about how the republicans are selling our their own supporters and intentionally hurting this country just so they can defeat Obama......Like it or not, what they are doing is almost treason in my book. They are intentionally hurting america and its people for political ideology. That is sick. That is just plain ridiculous. Where is the outcry about these antiabortion laws being passed while they are doing nothing to try to help us get back to work.....And this save the corporate tax breaks and save the millionaires but let the middleclass and poor carry the load is out right criminal.

Yeah, you're right, the Republicans are disgusting, but that doesn't excuse Obama's lack of action. What he said he didn't do. All the rhetoric coming from Obama during the campaign was great, we believed him, we wanted change, but no change happened, in fact it stayed pretty much the same. And to relay what Cornel West said before which I agree completely with, "a black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats. And now he has become head of the American killing machine and is proud of it."

This discussion has gone off course.  We were discussing a need for a movement within the African American community to address critical issues and problems plaguing our community.  Let's keep this on an intellectual level. The real question is what should we expect from President Obama.  We have to realistically assess the President's potential to give aid to the African American community given the current economic and political environment.  Why should we just sit back, complain, and wait for the government (including the President) to address our needs?  Either we are serious about changing the state of our communities or we are not.  We can go in circles forever about whether or not President Obama should receive our support but that won't do a thing to help our people.
You are so, so, so right.  We have so many problems in the african-american community.  We have the capability to address these problems ourselves .i.e drug and alchohol abuse, black on black crime, child abuse. murder, lack of prioritizing education, respecting black women, ----- I love President and Mrs Obama and I am going to do everything possible to make sure they are re-elected but I don't expect they to rescue me.  I know how to conduct myself in a humane fashion.  We gotta take some responsibility for our own situation.  You got my ear!

Nazar, Obama has done much of what he said he would do. I think this time around we need to listen to him more closely. The problem is that his specifics were colored by progressive rhetoric about Hope and Change. He also underestimated how bad the economy was. But he promised Health Care, escalation of the Afgan War, withdrawal from Iraq, progressive judicial appointments, finance reform, repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I think is accomplishments are quite impressive in terms of following through on his promises. However, I assumed a massive public works program targeting infrastructure and energy, a bailout that went beyond the banks and included home owners, a health care program that eliminated the insurance industry and financial reform that prevented organizations like Goldman from being deemed banks and regulations that prevented banks from speculating and gambling with our money.

If, If, If, how about what? Listen. All of that sounds good, but what are we going to do besides talk?

I have a movement that is in full swing. And if you are serious, all you have to do is step in and speak your peace. You will have all day on Saturday and Sunday to get as many people together and discuss this matter, then put you best ideas out in front of the people.

It is time to start putting these ideas into action. I am willing to go along with anyone's program, but if you don't have one, please join mine because I can use the help.

And, I promise you if you make sense in any way what soever, I will help you move forward and I will bring some help with me.

Grass roots meetings  start in the home...My home, your home, and anyone else who is serious. If you don't know, or aren't sure what to do, go to moveon.org and host a Rebuild the dream house meeting. All the instructions for how to do it and how to get people to be there and help is listed at our site.

If you aren't sure what to do, join my council. Just plug in my zip code (30034) and join the Dekalb council. I will be waiting and we can get this movement started in your neighborhood. We already have ours up and running. You can take the lead, float some ideas, or just sit back and list for the right marching orders. We are going to have it all, and we need your input. moveon.org

check it out.http://www.rebuildthedream.com/launch-highlights.php......http://front.moveon.org/

Get onboard. We are waiting for you to help lead, help follow, or just help. This is our america, but it won't be for long, if we don't do something right now. Not later, right now.

It's time to stop all that empty talk and start some serious walking. It don't take no money, just some of you time, your ideas, and your serious commitment to our community cause. We have to stop the radical republican . There are still some practical realistic republicans out there and it is time to join with them and set this country on the right track before we have a train wreck that destroys all of us.

Yonah.

and

For me, Obama fell short a lot of places where I felt he had a good opportunity to do much better. I have no idea what happened or why he went south on my and I am not at all happy about it. He has done some good things, that I admit, but he stopped short when he could really made the mark. Some times, I can't figure out who's side he is on.

I am still with him as far  a voting for him, because of the alternative, but just because he is black, just because he is a democrat, does not give him a pass. Like Janet said in her song, "What have you done for me Lately?" Or better yet, what the hell are you doing to me.. Get on the good foot Obama. I don't know what you are waiting for. The healthcare bill should have been a home run and you punted.

That is just and example. I am not saying Obama hasn't gotten some things done, but he sure has me wondering what he has in mind. I'm willing to accept that he may be off to a slow start because of the republicans, but some things are a given and he seems like he doesn't even see them.

Obama, that last speech you made about the republican wanting to save corporate jet subsidies is fine, but that is the tip of the iceberg. You have a lot of work to do, and I for one would appreciate it if you would get busy.
